another tranny bites the dust....

well about an hour ago, my VE tranny bit the dust...... didnt give me any warning.. just conked out on my while i was making a turn, and it wouldnt accelerate........ i was about 10 miles from home.... and first gear had a VERY LITTLE bite to it.. so SOMETIMES i could get it up to 35 MPH, then i could let overdrive kick in.... overdrive worked PERFECT!!! ohh.. and reverse also...... this is my 1992 SE auto tranny......... it only has 71,000 miles on it too........i may be getting a free nissan altima (auto i think) with over 200k on it...... or i may buy a 5 speed dodge stealth.......im NEVER gonna BUY an automatic ever again.........but free it ok ...... i dunno what im gonna do with the maxima yet.....i may part out, or i may put a tranny in it and sell it...... im still debating......the motor only has 71k on it with no VTC trouble or anything.....well see in a few days......i saw a green 5 sped maxima with 139k on it for $2000...... but i have no where near $2k.. so im stuck with either the altima or nothing as of right now...... i will keep you guys updated

Buy a tricyle.....jus kidding.

Sorry to hear about your blown tranny.

I know of a Junkyard in Queens that has a 5 speed tranny. I bel. EVERYTHING is inside the car for a swap. If you so desire, I can "peep" them by this weekend and send you their contact info. It's either from a 92 or 93 SE.

I also know of a dude that has a complete wrecked 94 SE auto with about 161K on CT. The car runs and drives but most of the body parts are no good. He's asking 800.00 and would prob negotiate to 750.00 or 700.00.

Let me know if youre interested and best of luck.

Is that CT car located in South Windsor? I saw a Black 93 or 94 SE car with the front end completely smashed in. The accident happened in front of our workplace. I pass the wrecked car everyday on my way home, sitting in his driveway. I hope the driver was not hurt too badly, the way the police were checking the scene, we thought there may have been a fatality. The Max hit an SUV pulling out of a trailer park. Both cars were hammered.

"Van....I hope I'm not whoring your thread up bro..If I am.."My bad"

The car isnt located in South Windsor nor does it have front end collison. This particular car appeared to have been involved in a rollover. The interior is pretty intact (cloth) and so is most of the suspension, tranny, engine and about 3 doors. I was interested in purchasing the car after the seller indicated it only had 110K. Proved to have about 161K upon inspection.

Man Vans, I think its your driving style that keeps messing up your trannies. When you're reversing and want to go foward do you completely stop before putting it on D? or do you let the car roll while you switch gear and vice versa? just wondering

Looks like you wont have a car for a while and you got 2 dead ones in your back yard..perhaps it time to learn to rebuild since you'll have plenty of time without a car

when shifting from drive to reverse, i let the car fully stop.. sometimes ill slip it into neutral while still moving, but that cannot mes it up....tomorrow i should have half of the day to take axles off, drop tranny, put old hopefully working tranny in, and hopefully get it back together...... im hoping in about 4-5 hours i can finish it......hopefuly... the tranny im putting in it has 227k miles on it.....

why do I feel that we will have another post from Vans coming in saying that the swap was disasterous, and now he's the proud owner of yet another poor VE? Sarcasm aside, wish you the best of luck man, and take it easy driving the 15+ years old cars.

van dude. I suggest you save your money and buy an old Chevy 4x4 or something. the trannys in those are pretty much bullet proof. Easier to work on in my opinion and 4wheeling is loads of fun.

The car or the girl.

Heck in my day several years ago I would have had her paying me just to take it after turning on the charm .
