sputtering question

my 94 gxe when accelerating hard from a stop or roll, the engine cuts and i have to release the gas pedal and apply again but slowly. This happens more often when im at a quarter tank or less. Im thinking its the fuel pump, any ideas before i go buying parts?

Yeah, I had the same problem. New MAF, no problem.

Also, as soon as I get around to it, I'll post a pics thread about why you can't fix a MAF. Atleast, not unless you're really really good. My new MAF was $25 from Pick 'n' Pull

To explain your problem a bit, as the little wires in the MAF burn out, they have a hard time detecting all the air coming in. Especially at heavy throttle. So your ECU, in an attempt to maintain a proper stoichiometric mixture, only gives you as much gas as it thinks you need for the amount of air your MAF is erroneously detecting. Hence why you have absolutely no acceleration or even stalling. Once the MAF goes for good, you can't get above 2500rpm. That's about 58mph in 5th. I drove like that for almost 2 weeks before I found a good used MAF. Replace yours before you get to that point.

oh yeah, sorry Vans... I found one locally. Since i'd gotten to the "no go over 2500" phase, i couldn't really wait to get one shipped. You know if I had a spare car I would have gladly over-payed you for yours. we all know you need the money.

Yeah, I have had a series or problems over the last few months (not MAF related) and have never thrown a CEL. Would be nice sometimes just so we know the problem.

If it does throw a code, it'll be a code 12. If i restarted mine after a stall, i'd get a CEL... sometimes. It took a long time (about 10,000 miles) to get to that point though
