Broken Emergency Brake

For a few days my e-brake dummy light was coming on, but the e-brake wasnt on. upon seeing this i would try to release it, although it already was.
note that tension/pressure was still there.

i get in my car this morning and the light comes back on. i pull up on the e-brake and theres no resistance! the e-brake is broken.

anyone know what mechanical failure this is for sure and how i can go about fixing it?

IMO, there could be several factors that could be causing your problem, all of which is tied to the rear brakes.

:seized e-brake cable (had the car been on the lift recently?)
:broken e-brake cable
:rear drum brake seized(GXE taken into consideration here, unless you did the disk swap, then it might be your calipers), dissassemble it and try greasing it and see if it helps.

What kind of wheels are those? Check the cable and see if it is broken. It connects your e-brake handle to both of your rear calipers
