Hey there folks. So I came across this
http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/151521292.html
The guy is willing to go very cheap, sub $300 if I bring cash (at least that's what he said over e-mail, but we'll see)
I'd like to preempt this by saying that I really don't know much when it comes to engine swaps or even what to look for concerning condition - so a swap may be outta my league- but like a dumbass I'm still considering.
So I've done my searching, but can't really find much info on the tranny issue, only one post here or there. From what I've read it looks like everything will fit with the only mods to the engine mounts, is this right?
Advise and flame as necessary
thanks

I hesitate to flame becuase I recognize and support helpfullness in the Maxima community and have greatly appreciated what I've recieved over my many years here on the board.
Let me really just say that you need to do much more research into this project and get educated on engine management, barriers (fabrications) to complete the swap, and really get to a point where you know what you hope to accomplish. Oh, and expect to PAY for this swap. $300 for an engine is cheap, it probably needs a rebuild and looks rough to me.
Sorry to pop your bubble. But I want you to understand that you are being lied to by this person. That is NOT a 300zx turbo engine. Look at the collector cover, the turbo cover will read turbo. There is no turbo on the side and the intake plumbing is NOT from a turbo model. This is basically the same engine that is in your car except it has a different intake, pulleys, fuel rail...blah blah. This engine also has the same compression as your stock VG.
If you want lower compression for higher boost, go VG30ET. If you want to get added high end power and maintain your low end grunt, get 300zx manifolds and buy a new turbo and install on what you've got.

looks way too good to be true.... the guys doesnt even know how to spell turbo......46k miles???? it looks a little "old" for 46,000 miles......what does origional computer mean also???? i would tell him to prove that it has 46k miles on it..... i highly doubt it does due to the price...
thanks much,
I sent a few questions (prompted by the above post) and really got stonewalled. He claims this is indeed a turbo, that I don't know what I'm talking about (which is mostly true) and I'd better come before the weekend as it will be gone soon.
I don't really need to swap an engine for more power, just dabbled in the idea for a moment as I'll have a good chunk of free time this summer and the price seemed right, of course the product was wrong.
Thanks again

if you think the car is not a turbo, and he is saying it is, he doesnt know crap about cars, and he probably doesnt know anything about that motor....i think if he drove it, he would know that it was a "turbo" but since he is sayig it is and it really isnt, how could he know the mileage on the motor if he doesnt even know what motor it is........ do you understand me?

i'm picking up what you're putting down vans. I'm sure this is some guy trying to take someones money, not just ignorance on his part.
And I already told him I'll pass-
While I do like craig's list, I'm begining to find more and more scams/BS on it (at least in Denver). I found a great deal on an older Fender, went to look at it and it turned out to be a vintage fender neck on a cheap knock-off body- if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Even if it was a turbo engine you want to get the late 87+ VG's. They have some changes over the 84 to early 87 versions, most notably the crank snout.
For the accessories and such to swap over correctly you need to swap over the crank pulley and I don't believe the newer pullies will fit on the earlier engines (at the absolute very least, not without a longer bolt... but I wouldn't try it regardless).
