It's Alive!! (New ECU!)

Got myself a new (used of course) ECU, and my car hummed back to life!

Also smacked on the new 18" rims and tires.

But, the car is a bit "spluttery" when its idling, could this be the ECU after reset? Or should I look for other faults? The car itself have been dead for a couple of months, so I also suspect some crap around, that needs to be blown out.

How long does it take the ECU to reset itself?

Better Yet, what caused the ECU to blow out ?? Was it just bad (old age)
or was it a short ?? you could very well be dammaging the ECU again unless you checked the wiring going to the ECU (Resistance) It's great that your car is up and running again, I'm still looking for an Automatic Trans for my 89 GXE (she won't hardly make it up my driveway) But I have a new paint job ! :slant: :vqman:

Troy.

What grade of gas is in it?? Put in some premium and let her idle for about a half hour then see how she does.

Hi,

Ive had my car in at the local nissan dealership. My old heater blew up this winter, pouring coolant into the ECU. It didnt short then, but after a couple of months it had a lot of corrosion on the inside and my car wouldnt start. (It did a lot of other weird stuff too before that).

I opened the ECU box to find a lot of the electronics had corroded away. So im pretty sure it was the ECU ;)

Also, I suspect something with my exhaust (hole or leak), so that might explain the erratic idle?

Check around the exhaust mainfolds for the leak...It may have a few broken exhaust studs, very common for these cars...

Research exhaust manifold studs. It is something I will be doing very soon.

I guess I will. Im gonna have a exhaust company that has its workshop under where I work to check it out. Im guessing the studs are crap to replace? Ive used waaay to much on this car anyway.. :(

is your car loud??? you may have an exhaust leak.... or because of the weird idle, you may have a vaccum leak.... how long was the car sitting??? just replace all the vaccum lines and you might be fine

Frakk2000 Jun 12, 2006 12:17 AM

Its been sitting for about a month, or that is. Its working/dead for about a month at a time since Dec last year :( Gonna check for exhaust leak today.
