ur better gettin' a 5-speed tranny and just do the conversion. cuz if u get another auto tranny there is no tellin' how long that one is gonna last. i spent $400 rebuildin' my old auto tranny at the shop where i use to work at and that only lasted almost 9 months until it gave out. then i spent $380 for a used one from a junkyard which the guy told me it had less than 84,xxx miles on it and that lasted about 2 months. then i had my in my backyard for a week until i came across a 5-speed and spent about $240-$280 for all the necessary parts and did it myself with my dad and had the car runnin' in 2 1/2 days after we completed the conversion. this was back in Aug. of '04 and the tranny hasn't given' me any problems. now im lookin' for an extra tranny just to have in case anything happens to the one that im usin'. so if ur in a hurry on gettin' ur car then spend the money in fixin' but if ur not in a hurry just wait and c if u can come across a 5-speed tranny either for the VG motor that u have or one from an VE. good luck.
The car is for my wife, (She wont drive manual, and won't learn) There's nothing more that I wan't to do than convert it to a manual, trust me.....
I found a reman guaranteed for 2 years 24K miles installed for 1000.00
So i'll think I'lll take that bet. Thanks for the suggestion I appreciate it !

I just ended up getting a used transmission from a junkyard out of a running car (RAN GREAT BTW) He wanted 2500 for the complete car (Too much)
But I bought the tranny out of it for 450.00 And i'm having my trans shop completely rebuild it. New SOLINOIDS IN THE VALVEBODY, NEW SEALS, REMAN TQ. CONVERTER, ADJUST ALL BANDS, INSTALLED for a total of 800.00 !!! I got an excellent deal. If you guys are in the so-cal area I reccomend budget transmission II In San Bernardino.
My car should be done by thursday and then it's on to the valve cover gaskets, intake manifold extrude hone / port match, and the exhaust stud replacement along with the warpspeed y-pipe and new cat. I MAY get a magnaflo exhaust for it too.

How so ?? 800.00 for a rebuilt trans installed ???
sounds like a GREAT deal to me....
But in TX It must be cheaper out there relitively speaking, My Mother-in-law bought a house in TX for 170K and it's like buying a 750-800K house here in cali.
But then again My job and many others pay LESS in TX than in Cali.
The dealer wants 2800.00 For a reman transmission installed.
AAMCO Wanted 2300.00 So....
450.00 for the trans
and 350.00 Labor to put it in is a GREAT Deal.... Depends on how you look at it.
I could have replaced the trans myself but why when it's only 350 for someone else to do it ??

I guarantee they didn't even think about opening that tranny for that price.
that's the average price for a used junkyard tranny installed by a low-buck shop.
IF they rebuilt it like you say they did, they would have lost money on the deal. and you KNOW a business isn't goign to willingly lose money on a job.

We use them at my work, They don't mind giving me a good deal for as much business I give them, and have given them. They are taking care of me
The junkyard pricing ranged from 750.00 all the way down to the lowest I could find (450.00) So I took it.
The junkyard I got it from does buisiness with the trans shop, They have wrecked low mileage cars, (My trans has 78K on it) Nothing is wrong with the trans I got, but I'm taking precautions and putting stronger foreward clutches in it and rebuilding the unit to make sure I atleast get anouther 70K-100K miles out of it without any problems.
