Eibach springs with stock struts?

Hello,
I got a set of Eibach lowering springs and have to change my lower control arm bushings ASAP. I also have a new set of wheels and tires that have to go on and was thinking that lowering the car would be something I wanted to do at the same time. I don't yet have replacement struts or the budget to buy them right now. So, my question is, can I use the springs on the stock struts, at least for a while, until I can afford Koni's? The ones I have are the electronically controlled Sonar Suspension II with approx 82k mi. Thanks for any adive.

I dont know about the sornar struts but I know when i bought my old 93 it had stock struts with Eibach. That had to be the worse ride I have ever had.

If the struts are not already worn out (at 82K its a good bet they are) they will be soon after with Eibachs.

At the very least I would buy some KYB. They seem to hold up pretty well to Eibach. I rode in CraigB's car with Eibach/KYB and it rode nice. They were a couple years old at the time so they seemed to hold up pretty well.

OR just wait until you buy the KONI and do it all at once.

Ya, That's what I would like to do- hold out for the Konis. It's just that I have to change my LCA bushings asap so I can change my shredded tires. So, with my new low profile tires and bigger wheels it will look funny without being lowered. Anyway, we will see....

You have 82k miles on an 89? That's low.

If you don't have the $$, I would try to wait until you have enough for everything and swap it all in at once.

It would be a PITA to basically do the suspension twice. Also, it is a good idea to get an alignment at the same time. If you swap things twice, you would likely wear out the tires funny before getting the Konis or you would have to get two alignments.

If your tires are flucked now, I would go to a tire store and buy some decent used 15s for the stockers and roll those until you can get everything done correctly.

hmm.... I was thinking along those lines too. But still, with used tires that's at least another $50-$60 for two fronts. Anyway, that may be the best option.

Yeah, as far as the miles go, I was lucky. I got the car in 2001 with ony 34,5k on it in Orlando. No rust, and low miles. I think a ninety year old guy had it before me and hardly drove it. It has all the goodies, like digital dash, digital climate control, sonar suspension, sunroof, etc... Plus, it's silver on black cloth- my favorite color combo. I thinking to upgrade to a 5.5gen, but I think I would regret not fixing this on up nice.

Thanks for you comments.
