they are attached to a track above the door. When you close the door they move back allong the track. When the door opens they move foreward.

I now know my girl hates 'em......

she was sitting in the car drinking a soda the other day with the door open and I forgot about the whole auto seatbelt thing and closed her door big mistake....seat belts retracted, caught her arm and by then it was too late......she almost choked on the bottle and then spilled it everywhere...WHOOOOPS, my bad! also never get your head caught in it when youre leaning in the window trying to get something, its quite embarrasing.(LOL)

Im spoiled with them now. I get in every car expecting the seatbelts to do that. Oh well.

My grandma freaks out every time she gets in my car. She thinks they are going to keep going and choke her or something.

Whenever I drive my bro's 5th gen max I hate having to put the seatbelts on. Plus it feels awkward. There's only 3 things my passengers complain about 1) No cupholders 2) Automatic seatbelt 3) Can't find door handle to get out (at night, inside the car)

I like them. They don't fit tight and you have plenty of rom to move and breathe. A lot of people hate 'em, but I think they are practical and convenient. Pluse, you never have to worry about whether or not you are wearing your seatbelt. Cops will leave you alone.

Make sure you put on your lap belt, or you'll end up like Niki T.

due to my extreme laziness, I just so happen to LOVE mine too, Ive never owned a new enuf car not to have em, so I find putting on seatbelts in others cars sorta annoying, LOL..
gawd forbid I have to reach behind me and buckle my belt!
and yes, Ive got my head yanked by it several times, usually hanging out the door at a maxima meet, LOL!

I don't have a preference either way. I liked the seatbelts in my 3rd gen (but all my passengers hated it) and everyone else seems to like the belts in my new car better.

Back to whoever was talking about their seatbelts not working.. Take it to a dealer, and they're required by law to fix it for free. the seatbelts are a safety feature of the car and if they don't work, it's not safe to drive. and it's not your fault they quit working (unless it's obvious you tampered with them). soooo, take it to the dealer and make 'em fix it.

OK

That's about all I can say. It is convenient, if you get used to it, but you can forget to put your lapbelt on. I happen to be about the correct height for the shoulder harness, but I noticed that on Canadian 3rd gens, the standard seat belts had height adjusters on them (now that must have been cool for 1989!). If any body is way short or way tall, I have a feeling he or she would hate these belts also.

My insurance company was really surprised to find both automatic shoulder belts and an air bag when I got the car. I think the early Nissan Altimas were really about the only other car with both (I got both discounts, which helped).

If these things start to fail though (more moving parts than I care for), then I'm sure I'll really start to complain.

Wait? You get a discount for having automatic seatbelts?? If so, I'm calling my insurance company ASAP!!

It wasn't much

Like $4.00 on a 6-month policy, so don't get your hopes up.

These auto seat belts are the best thing they thought of. I always get in my Max & there they are. They have never been in the way for me. I always get in my friends car & totally forget about the belt. It is to much of a damn hassle to reach & lock the damn thing. The autos are tight....

I've grown so accustomed to mine, that it feels funny when I get into anyone else's car that doesn't have 'em. But like Lordrandall was saying, the one chief complaint I have from people that ryde with me are the seatbelts....

You must have some *****es that ride w/ you. Not one person that has gotten in my Max has ever complained. The only thing I have gotten about them is a compliment. You know why because everywhere we go you don't have to take the time & hassle w/ the damn thing......click it, unclick-it.....

Yeah, I love my seatbelts. I have had a few mishaps with them, but overall, I love em. My passengers get freaked out sometimes though when they go on. Makes for good laughs though.

They're more comfortable than regular belts. Friends that have had other japanese cars don't mind them but most people that ride in my car hate them. I find if I'm driving someone else's car that I'll reach down low for the lap belt, which isn't there.

I love my automatic seatbelts.

The only problem is that it can be a bit easy to forget to put on your lap belt, particularly after a short stop, but you get used to that (and I remind my passengers).

But it's great only having to grab the lap belt. It's such a pain having to twist around and reach into a narrow gap behind you to find the seat belt on other cars.

Somebody when I don't have my 3rd gen anymore, I'll miss them.

Well, I am 6-4 and I have never really had a problem. I could use some extra headroom though. I am tired of hitting my head when I hit a friggin' bump.

I agree with Nevin though; if I would have known you can get a discount for auto belts, I would be up my insurance agent's ***. Hey, $4 is $4. Remember, I work and I am a grad school student. This = broke ***.

does anybody else's auto selt belts do this?

like if i hit the brake or the gas hard sometimes my auto belt will get tighter (as in the don't get any looser if you pull on them)? and sometimes they stay like that and when i open the door it smashes my chest or is my car possesed by satan and trying to choke me?

I am somewhat used to those anyway since a few Fords had them (I believe it was mainly Escorts). But in my case, I don't have anyone who has complained about my auto seatbelts. Plus, the cops don't bother you for seatbelt violations unless they want to be a ***** and see if you fastened your lap belt.

I think all of ours probably do that. I know mine does. I think the point of it is that it is doing what it was designed for: preventing your *** from flyin' through the windshield. It tightens down when you hit the breaks or gas hard to be more "prepared" for an impact. Either that or it could be possessed.

Uhm, well, sometimes if I brake hard, or I go up/down a really really steep hill, my seatbelts will lock (won't give any more slack), but they do that in every car I've ever been in.

They don't smash me or anything when I open the door.. and the allow 'slack' again after a few seconds.

The locking is probably just to protect you in case you're in an accident.

They take a lot of getting used to...

I HATED the automatic seatbelts when I first bought my Max, but you learn to love em...sure they spill drinks and choke you when you try to get in/out too fast, but hey! they lower your insurnace rates a whopping $30/year!!! It is nice to not have to worry about it, but I have gotten in a bad habit of not buckling the bottom half, which I've heard isn't too safe....gee wonder why!?

Has anyone else had a problem with the seatbelt light coming on sporadically and dinging at you, even when you have both parts of the seatbelt on? Its been driving me insane!!! Is it supposed to do that?
