I replaced my window regulators!

I replaced my rear window regulators today. I was tired of always jammin paper in then to keep them up. I noticed that the ones I got from a 92 SE parts car (vansskaterfreek - thanks!) look a little different.

The one on the left is my old one, the one on the right is the newer one.
It looks reinforced better. I was just wondering if nissan used this design after a certain year or did I just get lucky and get some fairly new ones that were installed on the car later. I don't know, but if someone knew, then this information may benefit someone.

Nissan found their flaw and upgraded the design (added that little reinforcement piece). now when they did it I dont know but it was probably after the last 3rd gen was built...I guess you can look through tsbs and find it possibly.

is it hard to replace your window regulator, because my driver side window maybe needing one. it sometimes sticks when i want to let it down. it always goes up but decides on its own whether or not it will let down.

I'll be doing it shortly w/ a motor/regulator combo I just ordered.

Any tips for us first-timers? Do you think it would have been easier if you were replacing the motor and regulator together as I will be?

Thanks!

It was pretty easy for me. You just take the door panel off and peel back the plastic. It's all bolted in, so no rivets to remove (2 at the bottom and 2 at the top and 3 holding the motor). You need someone to hold the glass or use some tape to hold it. I did the regulators and motors together and I would recomend that. I think I got lucky and got some newer regulators... I should play the lottery tonight!

I'm glad you started this thread cuz I just came across a prob on my g/fs maxima, The front driver side window doesnt roll up when you first press the button down, you have to press it numerous times and even hit the door. What I did was take the door panel off unplug everything and reconnect it to see if it was just loose but same problem is occurring. Could this be the switch or the regulator?

Also the window on right rear side doesnt go down at all, havent had the time to go look at it but gonna check it out and see if its anything simple..

btw, Craig, love you black maxima!

I just buy new aftermarket ones from ebay for $50 complete with the motor. Had one for about 2 years now no probs and just recently replaced another.

It's a simple job, but I hate how the door panels are held in by those cheap plastic clip things. Half the time they pop off when I'm pulling the door off.

What I did was I secured tie wraps on those joints on my regulators.

Temperature Guage and Headlight Malfunction

I noticed you give detailed advice and thought you might be able to help..

Just bought a 1994 Nissan Maxima GXE 4 door ...... car history is as follows ...
It was purchased used in 2004 and had a problem with overheating .... so a new water pump was installed ... overheating prob solved ... car worked fine from then on until .....

Fall 2006 - Car's front right/passenger side was struck .... damaging the area surrounding the headlight and hood top ... bumper on that side was slightly damaged .... and the front section of the passenger door ....

Problems after accident ... Car drives fine but....

1. Engine/Coolant guage doesnt work ..all other guages work.
2. Power windows go down but not back up except with use of pliers ...
3. All outside lights function ... the passenger headlight/turning lights have been smashed/broken out but the connection seems to be intact
4. Alarm goes out unexpectantly .. its funny because we have had some very hi wind storms and the alarm didnt go off ... everybody else did ... but at the calmest times it will just conintually go off n on if i dont use the key in the lock ....
5. Passenger front door doesnt open all the way but can live with that.
6. Hood doesnt close at front ... I can buy another hood if necessary ..

The car drives fine .... its hot in Texas (95 to 100+ degrees) and I dont really go further than 10 to 20 miles before i let the car rest for awhile .... The former owner said he went further distances when the weather cooled ... It really bothers me not to know if the car is overheating until its ... you know .. OVERHEATING!!

The former owner didnt want to spend any money on repairs and just pocketed the insurance claim if your wondering .....

MY Main 2 concerns are:

1. Is replacing the guage a major project and does the guage have to be new or can i use a guage from a parts yard OR is there more to this project than replacing the guage?

2. Also, with the passenger side headlight and cornering light, if the bulb was just broken out but the connector is intact its just a matter of buying the lights ... by the way the turning light below on that side is not damaged and works ...
If there is something wrong with the wiring to that headlight n cornering light ... how big a project will that be to replace the wiring and connector ??

Do you have or know someone that has a demonstration of how to do any of the above????

3. The former owner just glued(removable) the windows closed. I know its a matter of possibly replacing the switch or regulators on each window ... If the case is replacement I would start with the driver's window ... By the way .. the air conditioning works fine and i am comfortable drving with the fan controls on 1 or 2 in the Texas heat. My question here is if the driver's master window control is damaged wold that cause al the other windows to malfunction too?

Do have photos of the car and damaged areas if anyone can help???

The other problems I can pretty much figure out how to solve ......
