1st Thread

Helllo i got my maxima for my 17th bday, couple week ago. n it came with blown bose speakers. soo i bought some 6x9 225watt Lightning Audios n 4" Lightning Audios(b/c i read it came with 4" speakers in the bose systems) but sold them to my uncle cuz he needed them. Plus he said they were to small. So what is the maximum size i can go in the front doors w/o clearance problems.

Thanx for any help.

I would think you may be able to put 6.5's, if you take out that stock amp housing.

The amp's are attached to the speaker pods. Just tear the junk apart to see which wire goes to which respectively polarity to the speaker. Yes you will need a bracket on the door's 6.5's are I think the normal replacement size most use thou theirs those who put 8" in their door's also.

If you do a little modding of the stock bose bracket you can fit up to a 6.5" in there, or you can just make a bracket yourself out of something sturdy (I used plyboard)...it doesn't look as nice as the stock bracket, but unless you take your door panel off on a frequent basis it does the job quite well. As for the back, 6x9s are what you're looking for.

I am assuming you changed out the head unit?

The bose HU doesn't have power and all of the speakers are individually amplified at 1 ohm.

You can bypass the amps (if you have power from a new HU) and the 6x9s will fit in the rear, but you will have to either cut the stock Bose pods, build some pods or buy some in order to fit a 6.5. There is a member named James92SE that makes them. He was selling them for $35 shipped, but I don't know if he still is. I bought a pair from him a few years ago and they are great.

my setup is plug and play.
I reused the factory wiring and connectors.
I also made brackets to fit 6.5s up front.

BTW lightining audio is junk for speakers.

You can put pretty much any size speaker in the front doors. I have 7" midbass drivers in my doors right now. I've even had 6x9's in the front doors at one point in time. You could probably fit 8's without too much modification. Although I'd reccomend getting some 6.5" speakers for the front because they'd be very easy to install and they'd give you the better sound than anything smaller.

Go talk to anyone that installs audio equipment for a living...

The best (sound quality) route to go is to rewire the audio system. My gf can explain it better than I, but stick 6x9s in the back, buy some speaker brackets for the front off of ebay.com and a new head unit and run some nice speaker wire to the door speakers and rear deck speakers.
Or bypass the amps and find the pos and neg speaker wires from the head unit if you use the factory harness. There should be 4 wires that plug into the individual speaker amps. Take your time finding the correct pos and neg wires. You don't want to take those door panels off any more then you have to, just to fix simple mistake.

Oh and do the rear first since they are easy.

I used the 12 gauge that came with my speakers, my wiring was shot anyway so I had no choice. So you can use 10-12 gauge, but anything bigger than 12 would be too small if you want a booming system, and anything smaller than 10 would be pretty thick, unless youre gonna throw in an amp and subs.

I fit 6.5" speakers just fine. With some modding I could have put 6x9s in there. I dont know why you say your Alpine is ****ty. Alpine is the only thing I will buy now. Used to go with Kenwood or Pioneer then got an Alpine and never am I going back to Pioneer. You get more for the buck with Alpine.

but i have an offer for $1800 for my car. soo as soon as im ready to sell. i can order my 13bt rotary turbo engine n trannny abd start that project.

I just put some 6x9 pioneer 3 way speakers in my doors and they sound really whimpy I don't get it I guess I have to amp them?

I mounted the 6x9s in the door by drilling new holes lower in the speaker whole>>>>>>..
