I know I dont post much but...

I know I dont post much but I decided to becuz my 93 GXEs transmission is about to go out and I need to vent. I was drivin on the interstate when I felt a loss of power, now my tranny slips constantly. This sucks...at least I got my moneys worth, I bought it for $600 at 175,000 now I have 250000+. Now im driving a 7th gen Civic until I can save up money to either a)buy a used tranny b) get my tansmission rebuilt. what do u think?

yea since u have a new civic, i think u should sell it as is for like $300, unless u can replace the transmission yourself...plus 250k is a lot of miles, many other things may start to go out as well..g/l

Actually,he should donate the car to me immediately..

Seriously though, you might try the local junkyards for a used trans..Then try to install it yourself to save major labor charges...

I know how you feel on losing the maxima an no car will have that impact as your first car (assuming it was your maxima). I miss my 90 GXE everyday but I know that I will run into constant auto tranny problems even after the replacements (I know I have had my tranny replaced three times and babied them yet they continued to slip after a few k miles). I am on my 5th car in a year since I lost my max and I am actually comfortable again but I still miss my third gen since she was my first. Until I buy my e34 I don't know what car I am gonna have in two more months (hopefully it's the e34). I haven't felt comfortable in any other car like the maxima since she was my first and I am assuming your first also. Just junk her until you can get another max. I don't want to see someone buy a junkyard tranny and go through what I went through. The 5-speed maxima is the way to go IMO as the auto's are garbage IMO also. If I have to make a choice though get a rebuild as they are usually warranteed a little better than junkyard trannies.

so you got 75k miles out of a $600 car?

I would be happy as can be with those kind of numbers.

That's only about 1 1/2 or 2 car payments on something new (2 months use). You are supposed to average about 12k-15k miles a year, so that's about 5 years worth of use for $600.

I've gotten 25k out of $1100 over 6 months... I wouldn't consider myself out anything if my car died right now. Now if all goes well, I'll get another 100K out of her, but I'm not counting on it. And I have a VE5... 75K out of a $600 GXE is almost incredible. I would look at it in the best light possible and find yourself something nicer. Like a VE5.

I love my VE5.

yeah...i had a blast with the max...the thing is, i want to wait and save for the transmission but all i hear is "auto=bad...manual=good".....so maybe i should do a swap or just get another max(definatley a 3rd gen, maybe a 5th)...but then again i have a guy that does everything on my car for real cheap(ex. he did all four struts for 100$)...all i do know is, those civic forums suck
