engine idle

My engine has been idling high lately and has been making an almost winning type noise. It normally idles at 700-800 rpms but for about a week now it has been idling at 1300-1500 rpms. After I got back from The Fast and the Furious to pick up my car from a friends house it took me about 10 min to get started. After it started it was smoking pretty bad for about 30 sec. I have no idea what could be causing these kinds of problems. Please help.
