Well I want to make my Maxima run well and look well, since it is my first owned car. Lately I have been getting ideas of what I want to do to upgrade my car since it is completely stock (besides the rims and face unit in the car). Some ideas include: intake (dont know which brand is best HP gain/performance), cat-back exhaust(also dont know what I want), e36 headlights look awesome, clear corner lights look nice also, and a body kit (what brands are there?)
What I am asking in this topic I want to know how much of you invested money onupgrades not repairs or anything. I want to get kind of a consensus of what I am looking to spend in the near future. You guys can include details (or brands) of what you installed (intake, exhaust, body upgrades, interior work, sound system, etc.) Also you guys can leave tips, I can appreciate that.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Poll is optional but it's there

Optional in my world means..."it's your choice, your call isnt a MUST, do it if you want to, dont do it if you ain wan to".
The poll is optional whether it's stated or unstated because the members arent mandated or being forced to participate. No one has an AK pointing to them and and chanting Nike's slogan "Just do it".
That being said, there is NO correlation between optional and the results of the poll. I would THINK that you would want to have the most accurate results available since you want a consensus of what you may spend in the future.
If you review the current results you may see that 51% have spent from $1000 to $2999 and another 31% have spent from $3000 to $4999. Is that 51% closer to $1100 or $2900?What if its closer to $2900 and upon review you think that the cost of your purchases are closer to $1100 or vice versa? Don't you think it would be better if the increments were smaller and hence a more accurate result?

Ok I know I realize I made a mistake on the poll. But I cant put up a new one so I am gonna just have to deal with it...

well you can pay for an operation to save your life and you never see the money back out of that, but was it a waste? Its all about your outlook I guess.
I agree. Although I don't think I've spent as much as you have. But I learned alot, contributed to this forum and made some friends (I hope
)
All in all, I've probably been able to recoupe ALOT of what I spent though.

Under a grand so far(knocks on wood). Got her for $2200 at 136k.. Very reliable service for the price. But it could be because I try to baby her. Can't wait to start dumpin money in though

unless its a classic, you wont get your money back per se, but the time and experience may be worth it... ive been through a lot of **** with mine, lessons learned, tricks of the trade, etc. Seeing that the value of these cars is next to nothing its more worth it to me to keep it since its reliable in my eyes in that i know where its been/whats been done and how if i need to fix it and it still drives like new with about 32k miles since my rebuild on the motor.

Regarding the increments, just makes a simple pole too long in trying to get a general idea. I appreciate the responses and laugh at truly how nice many cars are with only a few thousand $$ spent. Personally, figuring purchase price, repairs (not maintanence), modifications, stereo....I have about $25k+ in my car. Of course, I paid $6400 for the car in '98. I'm not done either. I'm looking at more than $4k in just the turbo swap/new engine. But locally, it's not abnormal to pick up a decent maxima that just needs a transmission for $300 or so.

Hello, I just bought a '92 Maxima that needs some work. The most major repair will be to solve a "sluggish problem." I am wondering if I should invest in this? I am concerned it might be transmission-related. Is there a way to find out about any transmissions for sale? I tried google but I can't find any local sites.
If it's not transmission-related, I'm wondering if it's a sensor of some sort. Is there any chance a computer code (at the mechanic's) will show anything to narrow the problem down?

I paid 1500 for my 90 max with 270,000 miles. I have purchased Intrax springs, Stillen Strut bar and the oh so expensive carbonfiber gauge bezel from ebay. so ive spent a lil less than 400. im gettin my windows tinted next week so that will be another 200 or so

to me if it's considered a "waste of money" because of the lack of return then you're in it for the wrong reason. it's not an investment and we all know that. we're talking maximas not antiques, classics, exotics etc.

time obviously. what it comes down to that makes antiques/classics or any other car a valueable investment is supply and demand.
i'm sure most have seen the auctions on TV and some of these cars that are converted back to mint are going for rediculous prices. me buying a 60's vette and restoring and dumping money into parts with the intent to eventually sell is an investment. doing the same with a maxima is not an investment and one shouldn't expect to recoupe the money. i was gonna sell my max but the market isn't there for a modded maxima (other than this site and some other tuners). so i kept it...money wasted in most eyes apparently...
