Idle Problem, ive searched. cant find anything

Hello,

I was hoping that someone might be able to help me, Ive done a few searches and I cant find what im looking for. Let me tell you alittle bit about my issue

I have a 93 GXE. Recently, my car is having an idle issue. If the car is cold, it will start just fine and settle at an idle rpm without issue. However, if the car has been running (either is warm and started or simply turned off and restarted after running for awhile) and I try to start it, the car starts, then the rpms climb (above 1k) too high and then drops too low (like 200 rpm) and back and fourth for 4-5 cycles before settling. Sometimes if I give it a little gas while its starting, it will hold constant because im applying throttle but when i get off the pedal it begins its "searching" routine. Some one suggested it was a sensor to me but he couldnt remember which one he was thinking of... Again it only does it if its been running for a while, so I dont know....

If anybody has any advice for me, I would appreciate it mucho.

Thanks
Nick

Find your "Idle Air Control Valve" and try hitting it a few times with a wrench or something, sometimes they get stuck. Not sure if that'll fix it but my VE was doing the same thing and that took care of it. I think it can also be from the coolent tempature sensor too.

Unlikely, BUT, it could be a timing issue too. The knock sensor retards timing 2 degrees when it picks up a knock, and if you have a messed up exhaust manifold gasket (which is just above the knock sensor) just think how much it's probably retarding the timing. Just my 2 cents worth.
