temp selector for a/c-heater stuck

I know this has happened to you. Why is it sticking? wont go past mid way and its starting to get cold out side. Is this an easy fix? I can take the dash apart in no time. did it like a year ago to put in a cd player

You need to hit up the local junkyard for another heater control unit..

The slide control failure is pretty common problem on the maxima..There is a little plastic track/rail the slider rides on,after years of sliding back-n-forth,it wears out the plastic slide rail causing the binding...

MyGreenMax94 does he have to take out the radio to get to the cables behind the AC unit? I've never looked directly at that stuff when I worked on my radio headunit install so I really don't know what to say other than dig in...

Yeah, the radio and most of the front part of the dash in the area of the unit has to come out...The worst part about the job is the lack of working space...

taking the radio out is no big deal I can have it out in like 1 min flat. Taking off all of the other plastic peices around the center of the dash is going to suck most. I was just courious How it actually hooks in behind the module; I'm not going to break anything back there am I? Does everything just plug in like with wiring harnesses, or is there some type of mechanical linkage that IM going to fug up by not treating her like a lady? Also where does the spring go on the side of the cubby hole box? I seen it once along time ago. One day I opened the flap and then when I closed it, SNAP goes the weasle. I'm sure the broken spring is back behind there somewhere now.

Just take it apart...if you break something grab it while you're at the junkyard getting the heater parts

it's just a pain to do because you have to take apart 1/2 the dash to get it out.
you've got a cable to release behind the glovebox, and another on the head itself (2 different cable) the blue one should be behind the glovebox.
the outside of the cable is held in place by a pronged clip that NEEDS to be reused, if you forget the clip you won't be able to control the blend door

Try a new cable Thats what I did to mine and it works fine now. Oh and you have to take alot of the lower dash out to get to the cable.

So when I took it apart. the slider worked fine by itself. It is indeed time consuming to take the dash apart. and like always, I ended up with some extra screws anyway, the mix door was stuck and would not go all the way to the heat side. so I started to jimmy the door back and forth, and the sob came free. .................................dont know what that was all about. so I put it all back together (minus two extra screws) and it worked great for about a week lil stiff, but it worked. now it stuck again. so I reached under that dash, now that I know where the mix door is, and it is not stuck like last time. So I guess I am going to take it all apart again and lube up the cable really good and also try to lube up the slider. someone said something about petroleum gelly to lube up the slider. anyway the sob is driving me crazy I got to take it all apart again. you think that lubing the both will help me? or should I just get a new unit. I think that when I put it back together, the cable might be bent somewhere causing me a world of suck

Since we're on the subject of a/c heater problems, I a problems with mine. On the level controls (the 1, 2, 3, 4 levels) the only level that I have that works is level 4. I've heard that my blow resistor needs to be replaced. Is this true? Or will I need to buy a new motor? I've checked all my fuses and they're fine. I'm not too sure on how to check my relays.

Help!

Yes it is your resistor, take it out and resolder it. I did that to mine and it worked. If you don't want to solder it I think the part is like $14..

My temp cable was still difficult to move after I disconnected it from the mix door, so I knew it was the control head. I was surprised at how easy it was to disconnect on the bottom end (behind the passenger kick panel on the console), but it sounds like you have a might have other problems in there. If you have to take it down to where you can see the heater core, i'd change it while I was in there. Good Luck!

BTW, I didn't have any extra screws when I was finished, and there were a lot of them on the floorboard!

Yeah that rule is kind of dumb... No posting threads till 15 posts? That's just asking for spam... Remember that one dude a few months ago who posted the same exact sentence in 15 different threads?

Back on topic, can you replace the manual climate control with a digital one? Is it a direct swap?

I just ordered a new unit from RockAuto for $118.00. I got it next day and am installing it tomorrow. It looks a little scary, but then I'm just a salesman and anything behind a dash terrifies me.

It's not hard, just time consuming. Practice in the Junkyard.
You'll need to remove the radio, and the glove box to reach that blue cable. I still have not master the removal it with with having to force it to where the radio was.
