Need Help With Brakes

My rear brakes are bad. I had 2 different shops look at it and they are both sayin this...

Left Caliper Bad or Stuck
Right Caliper Not Functioning
Left Rotor Just about Completely Gone
Right Rotor Is l Like New Untouched

The 2 places both want over 500 dollars.

How hard would this job be if I attempted to do this myself? I have never done brakes before....

I saw Brakewarehouse.com has pretty good prices if I was to do it myself....

I'd say do it yourself if you would bet your life on your brake skills.I sat on my
5 gallon bucket for about an hour, and thought is this worth the 300 in labor
for me to do this job? I then decided to find the best mechanic to install my parts that I bought. I've done over 10-15 brake jobs and thought it was best for a qualified mechanic to do my brake job.ecspecially if you have abs.
Also have them inspect the brakes lines. These cars are known for the brake lines to go bad in spots.

in those 10 -15 brake jobs have you ever had a problem? i guess i would rather pay myself $300 for a coulple hours than someone else

nforce: most of the braking power of a car comes from the front brakes so you sholdn't feel nervous about doing your rear ones. it will give you confidence with little risk

ya, I had some problems with a couple but who has'nt? But some one
novice to tackle a brake job is just asking for trouble. Just my opinion

I paid 300 for all 4 rotors and pads replaced, some machine work, and
all new brake fluid in the system..

I agree that starting to work on you car with a brake job is poking fate with a stick. Many ways to make dangerous mistakes. If you decide to do it yourself, have a knowledgable friend or relative advise you and check your work (before driving at 70 mph).

Rear brakes are pretty easy. Even if you change out the calipers, pads and rotors. It's all plug and play + a bleed.

I also have a good used rear D-side caliper for sale. PM me for price. I just need to get rid of it.

+1 real easy. I changed the rear calipers, rotors, pads, and fluid (bleed from every end) for about 280 bucks (after core charge refunds.)

I wouldnt spend much on pads or rotors for the rear. waste of time/money.

EDIT: Oh and the (less) Advanced auto people laughed at my red calipers when i returned the cores.

yeah, that's one of the problems with buying rebuilt.
I hate core charges, I'm trying to find companies that make brand new calipers so I can avoid dealing with cores

GXE with rotors and not drums?
If it has rotor, the "caliper" is a cheap part, so replace it with a new one and not rebuilt (sometimes a rebuilt one is MORE expensive than new).

If you are learning without a teacher: Beware. If you're learning with a teacher, still beware. Have someone who know check your work out. And inventory what goes out and what goes in, so now parts are missing. Test the brakes in a safe area before going out.

Some of the best advice out there.

start with a nice 10 to zero stop, then 2x 40 to 5mph runs, and then move to a 60 to 0 mph run.

That will test the brakes and prep the rotors with the proper amount of pad material.

I've been having some trouble with my brakes as well. My mechanic said master brake cylinder was bad b/c the pedal would sink down when press the brakes. I bought a master brake cylinder from autozone and had it installed, worked fine for 2 weeks, then one day I'm back same problem. Mechanic saidi should have used Nissan part not aftermarket. I called around Nissan wants $280 for this thing. Has anyone replaced theirs and if so which brank did they use?
