Life coming to an end? I have less than 10,000 miles on a complete rebuild. I have years. And then I'll rebuild her again.

But if I had to get another car..hmmm...I don't know....maybe by the time I am ready to move to another car someone will have designed something that will gather my interest as the Maxima has. Until then I am staying where I am happy

For me, if it dies(again), rebuild. And again and again.... If I had to own a newr maz, definetly a 5.5 gen.

Dieing for a 3.5 in my car...

I don't need to consider. But I do miss the old girl. I got more people gawking at the maxima BBKs than I do at my new car.

For me, at this stage, the natural progression from the old 3-gen wasn't another maxima. I considered a I35 though. Same basic thing I suppose. But other than the year and engine, it would have been a sideways move. The G was a move forward in every way.

Honestly, I like the look of the Mazda3 4 doors. But I couldn't downgrade like that in terms of power. I don't like the 5-door hatchbacks (Mazdaspeed) which have 263hp.

Probably will get a Max or 350z later in life...or BMW 5 series...then ultimately upgrading to a Porsche

Life for these cars is just begining!
those of us who were old enough to want one when new, will rebuild them much like todays boomers do to classic muscle cars.
yes I know that sounds crazy but so does spending $5k on a rusted out shell of a 6 cylinder camaro, but it happens all the time because it is the style of the car they want, engine swaps are easier to do than one thinks.

now personally I'll just replace it with whatever comes up in my price range that is fun to drive, once it's motor or trans craps out worse than we are willing to fix.

Call me young and naive, but I'm keeping mine as long as I like to drive it. Which looks like a while since it has a lot of life left. It's a fun car.

Got rid o my Maxima for a 73 Chevrolet K20 4x4 Longbed Pickup with a 406ci Small Block. Lots of power and fun offroad and good low end speed to scare people off the line while putting my front wheels in the air a little.

Not planning on leaving the beautiful 3rd gen and sensual VE, but would also really love to get my hands on the R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R as most of you would like to as well

I'm not planning on getting rid of my 3rd gen at all unless it gets totalled some how. In my mind, my 3rd gen is just a nice, fun, daily driver. Although, I'm planning to mod it alot more. I'm also planning on buying other cars that are more performance oriented like a datsun 510 and a b13 se-r.

I'm not too concerned with cars right now

Probably a E46 328i or something along those lines. 330i's are still kinda spendy. Just a nice but affordable car. There are other more important things to focus on

Sometimes, I wish I felt the same way about cars (sometimes, I do, lol), but at the same time I think I'll always be into cars.

Only 61K and change, I've got quite a bit of time left with her (I would hope!) Barring any accidents of course, but when I'd be looking for another car, I think a 5th/5.5 gen would be near the top of the list.

With everything I've replaced and modified, mine should be good-to-go for a long time. Next car: have wanted a GTO since they came out, will probably buy one when done with school in 2 years. In the spring I am seriously considering purchasing a C4 'vette. Why? because I wan lotts of power being fed to the rear wheels and those vettes can be had for a lot less than a 300ZXTT, which is what I would REALLY like to have...

If someone would take this 3rd gen off my hands, I want to get something faster, or with the potential to be faster without so much trouble. Basically, I am not up to turbo on VE, so I want a different headache to deal with.

I am thinking of finding a stock-ish 240sx and saving for an SR or maybe finding a cheap 4th gen and saving for a 3.5L swap or a s/c. Other options include a Miata (saving to supercharge it), another Mustang GT and a 1st gen Talon. Long-term (probably about 7-8 years), I think I would like to get a G35 6-speed coupe or a 350z.

I owned my 3rd gen for close to 10 years now. It has served me very well, and though I plan to drive it for awhile, the thought of getting a new car has come into mind in a year or two.

I am actually considering one of these.

I've driven 4-door sedans for 14 years now (1 Accord, 2 Camrys, 1 Maxima) and I would like a change.

I have many wonderful memories with my car and it's the most fun to drive car I've owned to date.

Well when my Max finally dies, or when I am done with what I want to do with it OR when I have mad money in some way or another. I will be getting the Infiniti G35 (coupe or sedan cant decide), but it will be the newest one.

then purchase the 05 altima 3.5 6 speed.

I plan to drive mine for a long time. Its my daily driver that takes me 70 miles back and forth to work each day.

The only way I'd get rid of it is if some jerkoff wrecks into me, but if then, I will just find another 3rd gen and swap the parts onto that one. This car is too fun to work on and drive at the same time.

Great question, and something that's been on my mind lately too. It is sad to see our cars getting rarer, because when I check the autotrader for both private and dealer sales in the entire province of Ontario, only 13 hits come up from 1981-1994.

I've had mine for over 7 years, and the drivetrain is still a workhorse. There's no reason to get rid of it except for the fact that the body and wheel wells are rotting. Also, and this is natural, when all our friends and family are getting newer and faster rides, it makes you want the same. Toward that end, I have considered the following: The 5.5gen, a 2002 or 2003 BMW 540i, or a Lexus GS400 or LS430.

5.5 gen is the best choice logically because it's cheap and fast, but it looks wierd IMO. For the BMWs and Lexii, you can make a statement on the road with these cars. But then again, for the latter two makes, the logical side of me realizes that cars are poor investments (i.e. depreciation), and really, when you park it and go to work, it just sits there, and is subject to careless people's abuse, to say nothing of the inflated costs for parts, service and insurance. I don't like financing a car, but sometimes, and this is the hedonistic side of me, getting the nice makes make you feel pimp on the road.

Still undecided here. My third gen has over 262 000 km (~163K) and the drivetrain is still smooth like butter (engine mounts are a bit weak though) and all the electronics still work. There is no reason to get rid of it just yet. I will be taking it through another winter, and I will see how the body holds up. If I decide to keep it for one more year, I'll upgrade my BMW headlights to Angel Eyes. I also like the third gen for the exclusivity.

I assume it snows where you are in MD. How is the body holding up on yours? Did you ever replace the rocker panels? I drive almost 2000 miles a month on my car, some of which is stop and go, and it handles it well still. VGs are amazing.
