Sonar Suspension Removal?
Sonar Suspension Removal?
The previous owner of my max got almost every option for a GXE. Even that weird maroon interior color. My Max came with the Sonar Suspension, which would change from stiff to soft depending on road conditions. A couple of years back, one of the front shocks was no good anymore, and we wanted to replace the front struts. Turns out Nissan wants 600 PER strut. So we put aftermarket struts at OEM specs. Now, there's still these things connected to the struts under the hood. And I still have the buttons to toggle what kind of ride I want (Sport and Comfort I believe). Now my question is, since I no longer have struts which can take advantage of this option, how do I get rid of it? The things on top of the struts prevent me from installing a FSTB. I will take pictures when I get my car back from the shop (autotragic rebuild).
Can't really remember how it drove when it did have it, but it doesn't feel THAT much different. Maybe a little stiffer under "sport" mode, but defienetely not worth 600 dollars PER shock. May as well get new shocks and springs for car and get a much stiffer ride. I'll take pics when I get her back. STILL at the transmission shop.
I have the Sonar Suspension II on my '89 Max GXE and had no trouble puting on a FSTB from eBay. Maybe the kind you have is more restrictive. The brackets on my FSTB are big open semi-circles, kind of like a "C".
I also need to change my struts and was looking at using Konis or Tokicos. Incase I want to go back to my Sonar Suspension setup later, should I use a different set of strut housings to drill for the Konis? Also, has anyone here done the external adjustability mod to their Koni Reds, or know anyone who has? I wonder if it is worth it, at least to keep some form of easy adjustability for the struts.

That's what I'd LIKE to know. Just how exactly they are removed.
.
Ok, but if anything happens I'm putting the blame on you!
