So I hit a deer....

.... the max is likely totalled - air bag didn't blow - so I guess I'm lucky. Where were those guys in the Tulsa or OKC area who were selling some max's a while back???

I will be needing a car ASAP around $2K as I drive 70 miles to and from work each day and also deliver pizza's!!!

any help is appreciated! Will take pics tomorrow - will show the carnage (of the max and the deer)

edit: PICS ADDED!!!

I hit a deer with my QX4 last summer. I was going 55 and slammed on the brakes down to maybe 40 mph. The deer was running across the road L-to-R.

Nearly $6k worth of damage. One HID headlight was over $1100

luckily, the insurance covered all by my deductible.

too bad about your car, but it's good to hear you aren't hurt. I have seen some nasty accidents caused by deer. Just don't try to swerve, that's when you usually have bad problems.

I very nearly nailed a deer with my mom's Z3 a few weeks ago. If she didn't have those huge Brembos, I probably would have. I'd hate to see the carnage of Z3/deer/me.

I don't know about your state, but in Indiana deer are considered state property and as long as you file a police report (and don't keep the deer), the state will reimburse you for damages. I'm sure it's a long, drawn-out, paperwork intensive process, but I always thought that was cool. You may want to look into that. Of course, the state probably wont give you much money for a 3rd gen.

Yah, the pizza job is my second job Was going pretty good until last night - now have to use the F150 to do all the driving and that definately sucks up teh tips!!!

As for the accident - I didn't have time to swerve or hit the brakes - just BOOM and CRUNCH - blew my right tire. I slowed it down and pulled to the shoulder. As soon as I saw the steam from the radiator, I turned it off.

I took pics today, will try to host them and get them up ASAP. In Oklahoma, you just call your insurance company and let them deal with the damages.

Working on it - so far I need:

Right Fender
Hood
Front bumper assembly (reinforcement, absorber, cover)
Right Headlamp, Signal Lamp, Marker lamp & Fog Lamp
Radiator
Condenser
Radiator Support
Grill

basically a Right 3/4 Clip - going to try to find a black car and rebuild this one since I kept it and it will still have a CLEAR Title!!

was going 72 MPH - had the cruise on driving down the highway.

I am IMPRESSED! The max crunched, but the fender never pushed back into the right front door - all doors open correctly. These are truly well-built cars and I was fortunate that the animal wasn't any bigger.

All I remember is seeing the deer and seeing it disappear - it ended up crossing the outside lane of traffic, shoulder, and wrapped around a post on the guardrail.

No pictures of the deer? The car looks like it took a pretty good shot, but it sounds like a losing battle for the deer.

wow, those pics are impressive (not in a good way for you).

The damage looks nasty and it wasn't as bad as I would have thought for you going 70+ mph.

You didn't mention the speed you were going initially and I figured it was much slower than that.

Props to you for not crashing the car after the impact.

Yah, I was impressed with how the car handled and my reaction - I smacked the sh!te out of that deer and it blew my right front tire - it was weird, but all I remember because it happened so fast was like OH No - Boom! - then pulled across the outside lane and stopped on the shoulder.

I'm a claims adjuster and this is one of the more greusome deer hits I've seen, but the car did handle it like a champ - the fender didn't even push back into the door - musta been a small deer

I feel for ya- I did the same thing a couple of years ago in my max- didn't even see the deer untill I looked up through the sunroof. 65 or so mph, dead center of the hood. I was really impressed that it didn't end up in my lap. Airbag didn't deploy, which I still think was a little strange, as it hit right on the sensor under the hood. A few parts and some work with a hammer and it was back on the road...just in time to hit another deer. more hammer work and it's still running around. These cars are very well built.

It's a clean cut so someone probrably took the head as a trophy to mount on the wall..??

That was a lot of damage to the deer!

What the heck is under the guardrail; I thought that was the head, after the damage of flopping over there.

What did the road say to Black91GXE when he saw the deer?
...
...
FINISH HIM!!!

The deer didn't suffer much, but I bet the body was moving on its own in midflight.

I've heard of deer caught in the headlights, but this add they never said anything about a deer caught in the headlights...of a 3rd gen Maxima

I thought the stuff under the guardrail was also the head - but there's no skull???

unless I shattered it.... hrmmmm either way it was dead on impact.
