Common ABS leak?

92, VG30E, Auto. Stopped at light. Brake pedal slowly sunk to floor with car slowly moving forward proportionally. Pumping pedal seemed to help a bit. Limped home with car in N or P in conjunction with E-Brake when full stop for precaution. Normal brake would scrub speed well enough (though probably not as well as they should) and bring to a stop but they would not hold the car at stop for even 20-60 seconds.

No visible leaks near Master Cylinder. Visible leakage near ABS, in large quantity. No puddles, but quite a lot of fresh leakage trickling down the chassis and onto the undercover. Not yet able to identify where the source of the leak is in any more detail. Filled up brake fluid and took for another drive. Consumes brake fluid rapidly.

Know of any common sources of leakage near the ABS or specific parts I should check? I'm hoping I can just plug the leak with sealant. Will fork up the cash for new ABS if I have to. Rather not waste my time with junk yard ABS.

Thanks in advance.

get a person to watch it as you pump it, i had this problem

that brain looking thing (abs actuator) is what was leaking on my car, the vertical bars had pin sized holes in it and sprayed all over my engine bay

Been meaning to. Haven't had time yet. Hopefully tomorrow.

"Vertical bars" that surround the unit are hardlines for fluid? Interesting. I just looked. The smaller crooked lines running to the top are obviously hard lines for fluid, but the only "vertical" bars that I see are threaded into the unit, apparently holding two components of it together. I'd be intrigued if they actually were hard lines for fluid as they look more like bolts/studs.

Doesn't seems like anything is spraying all over the place in this case. Seems like fluid is trickling down from somewhere.

Did you get a new unit or were you able to seal the holes?

yeah the 2 outer ones are used to hold the 2 pieces together

but the ones in between them are hardlines and on my old one, that is what was leaking and spraying everywhere

yes i got to get a new one, but i had a shop replace it (when i first got it, i wasnt as mechanically inclined as i am now), they got it from a junkyard, hope everything works out for ya if this IS the case

Thanks.

Actually, when I checked with a friend on the brakes, fluid was leaking at the base of each of the 3 vertical rods on each side. It seems that even the ones with the threading showing carry fluid. Or, it could be that a certain seal within the unit is simply leaking and the fluid is flowing to the path of least resistance and that includes up the base of those vertical bars whether they carry fluid or not.

I tried to plug it with some sealant but it's just not very effective when coming from the base. It's difficult to apply with everything installed, even though I used q-tips and toothpicks for assistance, and it doesn't adhere very well nor plug the right places very well.

So, it seems the common brake and ABS leak shows up near those vertical bars.

Swapping the whole thing out for a new.

I have an ABS actuator unit that I'm never going to use. My GXE doesn't have ABS and I got it a couple years ago thinking I would like to eventually "add ABS" but of course that never happened. It is still sitting in my shed in good condition. It is used but looks to be in good shape. I could give a very good price. Let me know if you want it.
