Great news
I've been looking for a gearbox for awhile now and i finally came across one saturday. A fellow mechanic had one in the yard so we had to work something out. My dad knew him petty good so we got everything needed for the 5 speed conversion for $500.00 (if it wasn't us he was asking $800 just for the gearbox!) So seeing that the body was in REALLY good shape (not to mention the interior) we worked out me getting the the entire car for $700. I'm going to get the gearbox and all the accessories on thursday...can take some pics if you want?
The bad part of the equation is that it is a 93SE (which ever has the VE30) so i didn't like that. But i thought i might as well fix it and sell it with the automatic from my car.

then you obviously haven't driven a VE5. Drive one and you will change your mind about not liking it.

I really don't understand what everyones problem is with the ve in here lately, they are great engines with little issues imo, yeah the vtc's clack from time to time, but i drive both a vg[low miles 100k] and a ve[high miles 300k] on a weekly basis and i prefer my ve5 over the vg any day of the week..

it will not work. The VEAT is the only one that uses a different starter. There will be no way to start the car if you put the VGat in it. Best bet is to just part the car out and make back the extra couple hundred you spent on it.

I also want the experience of the 5sp swap so this really clouds my judgment as well. The body is really good on the 93 VE so if pieces can fit with little to no modification i'm going to use some on my max. If i read correctly here, it is MUCH easier to turbo the VG than the VE hence, another reason for the swap.
Has anyone switched the gauges from 125 to 145 before?

BTW I haven't adjusted any to sell the car with less miles. I have only done it because I had a ODO with a broken piece that kept the travel or regular ODO from moving correctly so I took the one out of a spare gauge cluster and adjusted it to the correct mileage.
