brake bleeding procedures?
brake bleeding procedures?
I had abs and a mighty vac.
someone said bleed master cylinder first, then RR, RL, FR, and FL.
Ok, I'm mystified on how to bleed the master cylinder. How do I do this, fellas? Should I leave the master cylinder cover on and press the pedal several times? Is that it? or take it off and press the pedal several time.
then once I'm done, how many times should I recycle this procedure after I bleeded all four wheels?
and how do I bleed the abs thing? that thing looks pretty bulky.

Do your brakes feel spongey? If they feel okay after bleeding all 4 wheels then I'd leave it.
Honestly I've never tried to bleed my brake master clyinder. I have had my max for almost ten years. I've changed the brake pads on the front about 4 times I think. But also I've never had any brake fluid leaks,
Was the brake master cylinder run completely dry? If not don't worry about it unless your brakes feel spongey.

The order to bleed the brakes in is actually different for our cars, I believe it is left rear, right front, left rear, right front, but double check by searching through some threads. Also, to bleed the master cylinder (and you do this first of course before bleeding the brakes), I used a friend in the front seat pushing on the brakes instead of the bleeder kit (vacuum). I'm sure the vacuum would work too, but I just had my friend push slowly down on the brakes while I undid the metal lines coming out of the master cylinder, the brake fluid would squirt/leak out of the lines as they were unscrewed and the brake pedal was being pushed down, and the air bubles come out at the same time. Do one of the metal lines at a time (there should be two). Am I forgetting anything? I recently changed all four brakes and accidently let the master cylinder run dry, be careful to watch the fluid resevoir always. My brakes work perfect now after bleeding the master cylinder and then all four brakes.
Also look on autozone.com to see the brake bleeding procedure. I've never bled the ABS and you shouldn't need to I don't think. I bleeding procedure should be enough if you do it right. Once for the master cylinder, then once for each claliper.
