Got my 93 GXE (auto) with 141k for $550 and have spent about $4,500 getting restoring mechanically..its almost running how I want it, just a few more things here and there before I mod it a bit. Pic is on my sig.

Keep lookin and it'll be out there, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of rustfree 3rd gens in CA

Picked up a 91 VG-5 with 98200 miles for $2200 (mint condition- one owner). Only repairs have been the thermostat and two injectors. Not a big deal if you do the repairs yourself.

And hows that working out for ya? Did you need to do any work on it or did it 'run right out of the box' ?

bro these cars are old now anywhere from 13 to 18 years old since our gens are from 1989-1994 they will more then likely need alil work or if like mine need some good TLC

If you bought a select few for sale on this sight you'd be getting a good runner...Your typical 3rd gen will need some work, tho.

Nice red VE-5 for sale in Washington right now (Cliff Clavin)

The car needed..
-both rear strut inserts (paid $300 shipped to Canada for a set of KYB GR2s, fronts are still in the box)
-some rust repair (under $100 with basic hand tools and some ingenuity)
-oil change and air filter ($30)

passed e-test and safety no problem, have put 5000 km on it, runs great still, will cruise at 150km/h all day on the highway.

I got an excellent VE5 with 136k for $2200. Original price was $2995. A bit of bargaining never hurt anybody. Almost went half the year without needing anything. If I didn't drive her hard, coulda been longer.

I know another red ve-5spd never raced or auto-x'd pretty much totally restored mechanically and appearance wise. I know the owner too.

You are correct about most $2k 3rd gens needing some work, unless you are very, very lucky. I do live in Oregon, like elusivemax said.

I have never autocrossed my car (I have drag raced it at a track), but the suspension is modded, so you probably could do autocross if you had the tires. Suspension includes Eibachs, Tokicos, front and rear strut tower braces and an ST rear sway bar, along with brand new dust covers on the struts. I sold the wheels in my sig, so I have the stock sawblades, plus a set of studded snow tires mounted on steelies.

Ilyaat, if you are interested in a modded VE 5-speed, shoot me a PM. It is more than you said you want to spend, but it is fully modded and in very good shape, inside and outside. Even without the mods, you wouldn't find a nicer car for under $2500. The mods probably add up to another couple of thousand, easily.

The list of mods is long and the list of maintenance is almost equally as long. I also have a decent amount of spare parts that will go with it, too.

Thanks VEvolution, yes I have a list and I'll gladly post it to show you WTH I replaced on my car since I got it in Sept 2005.

Yes I could've gotten any car off someone on the org with the amount spent but I didnt spend all that at once on the car, as stated above it was over the course of a year and a half or so.

That's a good deal...except for the 3k mile, 40 hour drive back across the country to Northern California. Not to mention the price of a plane ticket across the country.

It would be worth it for N34JZ's sled, though.

that's similar to the story of my car, except between the old lady and me was some chick who used to drive her wet dogs around town.

It would take several pages to make a list like that for my car.

Where is the line item for MrGone, Jeff92SE or MattComet labor?

I'm sure it would take several pages, mine is 2 pages in paper as it is. but then again I've only had my car since september 2005 and my funds are limited, I'm pretty sure you've had your car longer and of course have a more solid income. Hope Hectic sees my point of view as into buying anyones car on here with that I've spent in the course of a 1.5 year.

Hey Cliff, what did you mean by "Where is the line item for MrGone, Jeff92SE or MattComet labor? "

Add an extra $200 to mine, replaced the starter today, the old one wasn't too fond of this cold weather apparently...
so..
600 (car)
200 (starter)
300 (struts)
100 (body work)
30 (oil change and air filter)
---
$1230 CDN... which isn't too bad at all...
