I have a 93 Maxima with over 103,000 miles. I say over because ever since i bought it 6 years ago the odometer does not always work. First 1. When I go to start my car it will turn over and try to start but it usually takes about 4 times before it starts when it does its like the fuel is not getting right to it.-strange it doesnt always do this-sometimes it starts first time. alittle after my car started doing this it really started getting strange-sometimes my keyless entry wont work -therefor the electric locks wont work-my right turn signal sometimes wont work- Could all of this be some kind of computer chip? The guy that works on my car changed the fuel filter and adjusted the timing-did not help at all. Please help.. My mechanic said just keep going until it stops and wont start.. I am looking for a new mechanic!!

I'm having the same problem with my Max. Sometimes it'll start up without a problem and other times it will start and shut off immediately. Someone said the Idle is set to low but I don't think that's it. If you hear something, please let me know.

I too changed the fuel filter. Could be the fuel pump?? don't know.

How about checking the distributor, rotor, ignition wires, spark plugs. My car is due for all of these to be changed and it takes a little while to turn over.

Yes you can, its actually pretty easy because the filter is so simple to get to. Basically all you need is the new filter, there is a specific procedure you have to follow with pulling fuses etc, I think this depends on exactly which year and type you have. Check your chiltons, it tells you exactly what has to be done, or e-mail me your info and I will fax the relevant pages to you. CS
