hard time starting on cold weather, squicking noise, and gauge problem

I love (infact obsess is the word) my 89 Maxima and there are about only 3 problems that it has that still need to be resolved. I was hoping to get advise and inputs from you guys. Any idea why my 89 Maxima has a hard time starting on cold weathers. Usually you'd have to turn the keys as if you were starting the car first then slam really hard on the clutch pedal for it to start otherwise nothing would happen. The sensor and all seem to be fine, again, mechanic could not spot what's causing it and their best shot was the advise they gave me on "slamming on the clutch pedal."
Also, I was wondering if anyone out there might now, what's causing the squicking noise that appears to be coming from the rear (right hand I think) side of the wheels of my 89 Maxima. The clipper, calipers, and break pads have been all replaced and yet the noise still appears every now and then. Mechanics could not spot what's causing it. The weird part is, the noise disappears when you press on the brake pedals (usually it's the other way around).
Last but not the least any idea how much it would cost to repaire the gauges? My speedometer would not function on a daily basis and seem to be way off when it does. Thanks in advance to all of you guys.

The gauges could be 1 of two things. Either your speed sensor or dry joints in the dash. If it is an intermittent thing and your speedo goes all over the show then it is most likely the latter. Price to fix? Are you handy with a soldering iron?
As for the other 2, I'm not sure but I'd suggest the sensor for the clutch being depressed is the culprit. The noise could be bearings or loose pads. Hard to say withou actually hearing the noise.

Thanks, the sound that appears to be coming from the right rear side of the wheels sounds more of like a whistling sound. Definitely, so far all of the things you said sounds very helpful and a great possibility. If I can get those fix..are durable Max will be in Tip Top Mint Shape again. Thanks again
