This guy is an idiot.
I have a '90 GXE that is my project. Well has been my project for 2 years now. I bought it for $200.00 with a locked motor and a rebuilt tranny. I dropped in another VG30E and started it up and it has horrible exhaust leaks both front and rear. So my plans are to pull the motor do the studs and a bunch of other misc stuff. There was a '94 GXE with leather and sunroof, auto climate control (basically all the things mine doesn't) that had been sitting forever in my apt. parking lot. Leather was shot but my cloth seats are looking great so I was gonna swap. I left a note on the windshield to see if the guy would sell it. He called me and said it overheated and was towed there and has sat since. The motor was bad. I asked him if he wanted to sell it since it was tagged to be towed away. I offered him $300.00 bucks. He said he wanted at least $1200! Well it got towed he had to pay for the tow and that's that. He could have made $$$ instead of dishing out dough. I really wanted it since I could anything I needed off mine for parts. Just wanted to vent.
Tried to buy a POS Ford Taurus as a winter car last fall. It'd been sitting there so long that the phone # on the F/S sign was faded and barely readable. I called him and he said he'd sell it for $200...I said $150 (I'm not gonna pay $200, it's a Taurus.) He said no...car is still sitting there...What a retarded f'uckhead!
BTW, bought 2 Buicks for $200 later in the week.

there is a really nice white VE I see every day on the way to my daughters school. They have a bunch of junky crappy cars that dont run and that Maxima. The owner wasnt there when I went by but I left my number and the guy said that she probably wouldnt sell it anyway. Its been sitting in the same spot for over 2 years.
The guy wasnt sure what was wrong with it but he thought it was the motor or trans (gee that narrows it down a bunch doesnt it).

no it is an apartment parking lot so they towed it away because it sat there for over 2 years and he had to pay the fee to the apartment office. I didn't care about the engine or tranny, mine are good. There was also one that was totaled sitting in a lot and I called the shop about buying it so I could use it for misc parts. The engine was shoved back into the fire wall and it was pretty jacked up. definitly a total loss. the guy said he would take 2000 for it because it had low miles! I laughed and told him he was a fuc*in idiot.
Ok I got me another 3rd gen! I picked up a '90 GXE with 117K miles on it. It has leather, sunroof, Bose etc. The interior is mint! The outside not so pretty. It has been wrecked. It needs a hood, fender, and headlight on the drivers side. Since this one has such low miles and a nicer interior than mine i am going to use my car as the donor for the body panels. I got it for $500.00! woo hoo

the taurus makes a corsica look like a good car!
the blows head gaskets and the trans just blows chunks.
It's a FORD for a reason

I can agree that the 3.8's blow head gaskets but that not the only engine available. The SHO has a 32 valve DOHC 3.2 V6 Yahama engine. Search it under utube

I've driven many cars that will dust the SHO even with the Yamaha V-8
it's a FWD ford, doesn't matter what motor it got stuck with, it still blows.

therefore, your dad's van lucked out and happened to be reliable for an incredible number of miles. just like some maximas had bad luck and fell apart all on their own at less than 100k miles. but it's rare, as is a problem-free high mileage Ford. but not impossible.

dont know if any of you FORD lovers know this but this is a NISSAN forum so go elsewhere with your ford loving crap. And just for the record I am a mechanic its my job meaning I tear trannys out of ford junk everyday not to mention that they have the worst engine and tranny design of all manufacturers (anyone ever put a water pump in a taurus, contour, probe or any other fwd ford) worst cars to work on PERIOD.

There are a few lemons with engine's blown at 10k miles but that goes along with any manufacturer... All Fords we've owned have been good, trouble free vehicles with the exception of a few minor details... (Not like I'm on my 3rd Automatic in my VG or anything) I also find it odd Ford has had the best selling pickup around for more than 20 consecutive years, not only are they good trucks... but there's something in them that makes the owners have loyalty like no other manufacturer I've seen. Regardless... stereotyping ALL Fords, or ALL vehicles as to being ****ty is, by right, your opinion... but getting defensive and bragging about how much you know about cars while bashing an entire company doesn't make you sound very smart...
ya i know, you all probably think the title of the thread is about me now...
one good thing ford did do was the 300 straight six, i will agree ford pickups are fairly reliable, but nothing will ever compare to my 85 nissan 720 pickup with the z24, yup she sure is ugly but with 347xxx miles on the origanl engine and tranny and rear end says alot since i am still driving it 30 miles to work and back every day.

Dad had one in his old Lance Truck... 300k miles going strong when he sold it back in 95 to get the Max
I'm also REALLY impressed at the new 330 5.4 Modular engine's..... spark plug changing is a ***** but those are some strong engines.

Yep. It boils down to how well most ppl take care of their cars, and it just doesn't happen most of the time.
My mom has an F150. We've put 40K highway miles. only thing it needed other then tuneup stuff is a alternator. And we've towed about 8 cars with it... edit it has 176K miles. I do all the work, and OMFG I want to shoot who ever decided to put the plugs there.

THE JAPANESE MYTH
Honda and Toyota are lauded for their reliability and have built a number of high-rated models, including 7 of our 10 Top Picks. But we found that not all Japanese cars excel.
“Honda and Toyota are really on a pedestal,” says James Rubenstein, an automotive analyst at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. But other Japanese makers, such as Nissan, Mazda, and Mitsubishi, have struggled to build high-quality cars consistently.
Nissan’s lineup, on average, actually scores above Toyota’s in CR’s tests, 75 vs. 70. Nissan also produces several of the most reliable cars in our survey, including Infiniti sedans. But three Nissans--the Armada,Titan, and Infiniti QX56--were among models with the most reliability problems in our survey; all are made in the same plant in Canton, Miss. Ford vehicles, in comparison, have slightly better reliability in our survey than cars from Nissan.
Mazda vehicles test well, but reliability has been hit-or-miss. For example, it took several years for all versions of the Mazda6 to come up to average reliability. The average Mitsubishi scores only a 60 in CR’s testing and has average reliability. Mitsubishi’s Eclipse sports coupe scored too low in our road tests for us to recommend it. Though every manufacturer has recalls, even Toyota has taken some heat over its 10 recalls of 657,000 vehicles in the past year, although that is not a factor in our reliability Ratings.
