I have recently noticed the car('91 SE 5spd) jerking when I try to go into first gear from nuetral. But it seems to be fine in higher gear changes. Any ideas on what this could be?

Have you had your tranny replaced at all? When was the last time you changed your fluid? Mine used to do that to, but that was on a rebuilt tranny.

I do have a rebuilt tranny. Change fluid? Uh oh, never done that(yikes) ...2 years...can I do it myself, or should I pay someone?
