Well i finally threw a code...

I went out for a gallon of milk this afternoon, the cel came on as soon as i fired it up,and it was missing..

I checked the code,it was a code 15..[15 Mixture ratio is too lean despite feedback control; fuel injector clogged]

Turns out it is the injector on cylinder #1
I was kinda surprised the car actually threw a code for an injector?

Anyone else ever had a bad injector throw a code?

I did..long long ago. It was also injector #1. Replaced it with a used one, and was good to go.

I'm thinking about just replacing the entire rail of injectors with a good used set..

Wow CEL from an injector? Maybe the car has become wiser after rolling past 300k Hopefully you won't have to pull the plenum. If you buy new injectors for the rear, and keep used ones in the front, you save half on the injectors and peace of mind. That is something I really like about the ve. Of course on the other hand, the lower o rings are tricky and can cause a double plenum pull anyway

Its this da*% ethanol mix. I started having the same problem in summer of last year and it went away in winter. Seems to be coming back now that the mix is trickling in.

yes the injectors, your going to have to remove the upper plenum, ha you should buy spacers then (easy i should say)

paint them?... why not polish them... or make them match your CAI piping
that'll be saweet

Octane has nothing to do with emissions...It's only purpose is to decrease spark knock [detonation]....

but shouldn't the gas companies know that they're killing their customers' cars with the stupid ethanol? they ought to have to pay for the new injectors.

compared to you, yeah. But Raleigh is one of like 10 cities bunched together. Raleigh (NCSU), Durham (Duke), Chapel Hill (UNC), then Cary, Garner, Apex, Knightdale, Carboro, Wake Forest (not to be confused with Wake Forest University, which is 100 miles west of Wake Forsest, in Winston-Salem)... so the overall population of the 'Triangle' is more like a million.

My entire county has about 15K people. The county seat is the largest city and has about 5K people. I'm a country boy that likes to work on cars and drag race.

Yeah I've NEVER heard anyone in real life call up a neighbor and say "Hey, this is ___, across the field from you, do you happen to know...". Does Greene county have ethanol in its gas? I think Wake probably does because we have like 400K in the county, but I doubt out of 15k people that enough of them care about it to bother putting it in or mandating it.. way out yonder where you are. Not that I can afford to drive all the way out there whenever i need gas in order to preserve my injectors' lifespan. (Yes! I just got back on topic with the thread!)

Of course it would, the car runs like absolute trash when an injector goes bad, I should hope that the roughness from running on 5 cylinders gets picked up somewhere (knock sensor?).

btw my car did the same thing about 2 years ago but then it fixed itself and hasn't come on since. Can't complain.

Most 3rd gens will never throw a code for a bad injector...The knock sensor did not throw the code,it couldn't have[My knock sensor has been bypassed]...The ecu noticed a lean condition, most likely from the o2 sensor...
