I would not bother with that one. I personally don't have any experience with it, but it's easy to run into fitment issues with these types of replacements.

I would call up Warpspeed Performance and tell them that you need a stock replacement. They will probably provide you with a NON-Mandrel bent Ypipe. That will still show some VERY nice gains compared to the one in the ebay auction and the stock unit. You might be able to get a non-mandrel VG Ypipe from WSP for under $175 shipped. That's not bad considering it's a very heavy part to ship.

You may be able to find non-mandrel aluminized VG Ypipe pricing on their website:

www.warpspeedperformance.com

Call up WSP before you make any decisions.

Your other option would be to get a used Ypipe from a parts car that doesn't have much rust. Look in the classifieds section for a VG parts car.

In my opinion, if you're going to spend about $100 for another Ypipe, you might as well look into the WSP Ypipe. Yes, it's more expensive, but you'd be investing in something that is beneficial to your engine performance abilities.

That EBay one that you have as an example still routes the rear manifold exhaust gases towards the front before joining the main outflow pipe. The WSP has all the exhaust gases merging in the same direction at the junction.

Good post, I agree.

I have an aftermarket y-pipe (I have a Cattman) and not only did I see performance gains, but better mpg, too.

With my car being tuned well and with the performance mods, I get about 30 mpg on the freeway driving correctly. On several occasions, I have gone past 400 miles on a tank before stopping to put gas in.

And your not spending $500 on a crappy stock pipe. My mom did on her old 3rd gen just a few weeks before I joined the org ><.

Same here. I usually average 29mpg hwy these days...and I'm not stingy with the gas, either! Weren't the VG and VE both rated somewhere around 25mpg hwy when they first came out?

26 hwy, same as my minivan and 1 mpg more than the caddy

21/26 for the VE 5-speed and 19/26 for either VE or VG AT in 1992. In 1991, the VG 5-speed was rated at 20/26.

I had a 92 VE 5-speed that I bought in 95 or 96. Bone stock except for a K&N panel filter. I could never get better than advertised mpg (25-26 mpg hwy) and I only used 92 octane and I drove it A LOT on the highway. I put over 100k miles on it in about 2.5 years and I kept a very detailed log book on the miles, fuel and maintenance, since I used the car for work. (The only maintenance was a tune up at 120k and the slave cylinder went out).

I defenitely think that the y-pipe and other mods help the mpg. I have had two different engines in my current (red) Maxima with the same bolt-on mods for both engines and even my old engine with 140k on it got 30 mpg going to MrGone's place and back.

oh yeah... since you're planning to change your Ypipe, you might as well look to buy exhaust studs and have those changed out too. The gasket too.

VGs are known to have problems with that; the studs breaking and changing the gasket just because you're in there anyway. I believe you can get studs from any Nissan dealer and should not be too expensive for each. Here's a reference point for the exhast studs: http://www.4dsc.com/articles/drivetr...ld_studs.shtml

No, No, No . Studs are a pain to change , especially the rear ones. Y pipe is a 1 hr- 2 hr job.

1-2 hrs? If the ypipe/cat bolts are rusted. If not then its a 30min job. PB blast the bolts multipul times over the course of a few days, that helps alot.
