Trunk Pop not working

Had a question concerning the trunk pop button. On my new VE I can hear it trying to pop but it doesn't do anything and it just kind of clunks instead of unlocking the trunk; but the key works to open it.

So I took out the actuator (I guess it's the actuator, it's the little black box that pulls the cable in the trunk from the latch) from my working GXE trunk, and to no avail it doesn't work either. Everything seems to be working fine but it just doesn't work; and I assume it's not a fuse or something because I can hear it clunking.

The only thing I noticed is that right next to the actuator in my GXE is that there is a little green and orange box with wires going to them; relays I guess? But the VE only had an green box.

Hmm.

Any help would be much appreciated since I have to shut off the car and give someone the key if I needed to pop the trunk when the car was running. PITA

Thanks.

The green and red boxes are relays. The green box is the fuel pump relay, the orange, ignition. nothing to do with the trunk. Is the cable broken? The cable has a little ball on the end, usually that breaks off.

No, like I said... I took the working one out of my GXE (even though the one on the VE had a ball on the cable as well) And it won't pop it.

there's a switch setting on there did you flip it the opposite direction? I forget if it's up or down that you have to have it, but if it's in the disabled position the solenoid will click and function but the acutator is blocked from moving so it dosen't pop the trunk

on the actual latch itself? I noticed the part that connects to the actuator cable moved up and down. I assume that's what you're talking about, I'll go give it a try and see if it does anything.

Hah, went and tried and moved it in the up position and it works. I guess the latch is a bit old and I have to hit the pop button twice. Guess I didn't give it enough time earlier.

Anyway, thanks for the help. I'm glad it was easy, I just overlook things..

it's part of the body half of the latch, not the trunklid half. it's on the driver side of the latch a little long thin tab sticking out and just put your finger under it and pull up.

my wording on my first post there was atrocious. it's not an electrical switch. it's just as simple as the adjustibility of channel locks. but just 2 positions. if you move it up, it will pull the latch open when you hit the button on your door. if it's down, it will pull, but it will be too low to actually acutate the opener.

it's raining. didn't feel like going back outside to take a pic. just pull that tab up and you should be back in action.

This is a valet switch for the trunk latch. You get a special valet key with the car (smaller with red handle) that won't open the trunk, so you can lock your valuables in there, then switch that lever so the door button to open the trunk won't work. You have to use the regular key to open the trunk, flip that switch so the door button trunk release works again.

it's easy to find. just look at where the latch is and it's right there, just bend over and look back towards yourself since it's on the inside of the trunk.

I found it. Thats nifty. I have an uncle that worked at the nissan garage when these maximas came out and he couldn't fix this problem. However, its very ironic cause my battery died so i couldn't check it. Either way, thanks i'm sure it'll work

My trunk was having issues like that every so often, esp. when I overpacked the truck. The relay always worked, what I found to be the problem was that the trunk latch and relay werent lined up. I tried many times to move the whole locking mech. in the body and I actually had to bend the trunk latch down as opposed to realigning the relay. It was a ***** to figure that out, I finally saw it after climbing into the trunk and checking the alignment with a flash light.
