Grill Question, is there any difference?

Hello! searching ebay I found this grill

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...8273995&rd=1,1

I like it and I want to install it on my 90 SE but they say it won't fit other years but 92 - 93 - 94, I don't know if they ignore that 3rd gen is 89-94 or maybe there is some difference on the 92-94 grills (maybe the ones that have VE engine) I haven't had the chance to take a look inside any 92-94, so if any of you could please tell me if the grill could fit I would really apprecite it, Thanks.

the 92-94 grille is different from the 89-91. The early grille had top middle and bottom crossbars that were all flush to the border. The later grille had smaller crossbars that were recessed inward, and a Nissan logo glued into the center. The lip on the later grille was thus about half an inch pushed out from the many small crossbars. The insert fits into that space, and thus will only work on a (probably has to be debadged) 92-94 grille.

its just an insert for the '92-'94 GXE and SE models. the 92-94 grille design is different from the 89-91 grille design but they are both interchangeable. i use to have the 89-91 grille cuz it came with my car when i bought it like that. i had to go out and get the correct grille for my '93 but both will work on our 3rd gens only thing different is just the design. so it seems that if you want this insert you might have to modify yours to fit or it might fit without modding your grille or you may have to go out to the junkyard and find the 92-94 grille to install the insert or finally modify your own grille and call it a day. i modified my grille

It will fit. All the grills from the 5 years are interchangeable. They are different exterior designs but mount the same. In fact, I am running a early grill (black) on my white '94.

I do notice the different design from the 89-91 and the 92-94 and actually I like a lot the 92-94 with the roundish nissan Logo, but I was afraid that the clips that bolt on the metal part of this grill won't fit on my 90 SE.
The post from capedcadaver tell me it won't fit, GRNMAXDMON say it's interchangeable but in the last two lines you confuse me man! you modify? why? so it won't fit? so how you had a 89-91 before? I don't get it.
and finally todamax you have an 89-91 on your 94 right? so the early grill fits the later housing, are you sure it works backwards? because maybe you tried an 89-91 in a 92-94 but what about a 92-94 grille in a 89-91?
I understand about about design differences but the question is, the small clips that bolt on the chassis are sited in the same place? and are both types of grills the same size (worried about the housing)?

you can get a different grille, because the two grilles themselves are interchangeable across all models. same size, same mounting procecure. only the face differs. the insert you want to buy will only fit in the later grille, but all you gotta do is go to a JY or PM another Max.Org member and buy their grille, debadge it, and slap that insert into it..

as for modification, he was saying you can take your early grille and cut and chop until that middle bar is either removed or trimmed away enough for your ebay piece to fit correctly.

if I worded it to seem like the grilles themselves are not interchangeable, that's not what i meant. "insert" was referring to your ebay part, and that it will not fit in the 89-91 grille. but any grille fits any car, so long as it's a 3rd gen Maxima.

Ohhh!!! I finally got it! I know what you mean capedcadaver about the insert now, so I'll be getting the 92-94 grill from a JY and the insert from ebay, Thank you for your input Alex, that's what I wanna know: a 92-94 in a 89-91 that fit without problem! Thank you all for your help! now I got some stuff to buy this weekend

i modified my stock original 92-94 grille. in other i just got rid of the inside and put a mesh behind it. i painted the grille in the same color as my car since i hate chrome and installed the wire mesh and painted that black and then installed it on my car. thats what i meant to say when i said that i modified it.
