because I was trying to make a key for my car, but when I went to the dealer near my house, hear could not cut a key from the code that I gave to him.

mine has 4 numbers. Apparently if you loose it and don't have a key to copy you have to have a locksmith make you a key to fit. I never had the master key for my old 3rd Gen. All I had was the valet so I couln't open the trunk or passenger door. I called Nissan and asked if they could make a key based on the VIN. They said no that they just purged all the info on 2nd and 3rd gens and it was no longer available.

Thanks Nissan

It's 4 digits, and was originally on a sticker in the glovebox. It starts with the letter X****. I've had keys cut off that code twice on both Grey VEs.

The key code could be on three different places,

the first place is in the glove box,

the second place is on back of a case if your car came with the original manual and other stuff from the original owner that was originally from the dealer.

the third place is on the key of it self, if the car came with the original three keys.

how much would it be to buy a factory key if i gave them the code? how many limbs should I expect to sell to afford a factory key? my key is sometimes stupid, like it'll hang on the tumblers and stuff. that never happens on my mom's factory-keyed car (toyota, but that shouldn't matter)

have u tried lubing the cylinder?

and while speaking of keys, I have the red valet key and the black master key. I thought the valet would not work in trunk or glove box. my valet works in the trunk but not in the glove box. no bigeee just wondering.

well it gets funky in the doors. but no, i have not lubed anything. it's generally OK in the ignition most of the time. the key cyls on the door can be a bit tough sometimes too though. but on occasion the ignition key cylinder works so smoothly that I used to be able to pull the key out while the engine was spinning down. i had that turn-push-turn down to a science. it's not that easy right now thouh, don't know why. possibly cuz of the park-keylock-solenoid thingy. i may disconnect it again, since it's slowing down my key removal.

but if a genuine Nissan key is not too expensive i'd rather have one of those, for looks if nothing else.

I also got my last generic key free...ALTHOUGH they do have the OEM Nissan key for like 14 bucks and has to be ordered.
