has anyone been to Pull-A-Part.com?
just wondering if anyone has actually been there and gotten parts before. I looked on their web site and I can get a automatic transmission for $46! Is this for real? I tried calling and I couldn't talk to a human, just a computer generated voice that said there are 23 1989-1994 nissan maximas available. I guess they want you to come there and then find out if they actually have the part you need or not. I'm skeptical about it
thats what I thought. It would be a lot of trouble to replace a transmission and to have it not work, I would be pissd! If I was to pull a transmission, how would I get it out of there? I mean would I need to pull my truck or whatever into the yard and load it myself? Or do they offer any assistence, I know its a self-serve kinda place. I guess thats how they can offer such low prices.
been there maybe 1745 times, that is my type of mall, every time i get bored i go there.
as far as your tranny goes, they "help" you get it out. they have a guy going around the yard in an ATV with a torch and other tools. once you get it out they pull the tranny to the gate where you will be waiting with your truck.
i think that for $46 and two hours of work it is WELL worth the try.
by the way, they have a lot of maximas there, even 2 or 3 have 5-speeds

yeah, like Rod, I've been there MANY MANY times (used to live in Duluth so I was at the Norcross location a lot).
They have tons of cars and really good prices. I have never bought an engine or tranny so I dont know how well you'll be able to tell the condition of it. Also, the cars get stripped there very quickly so you gotta keep an eye out and see when they get new cars (their website is usually pretty up to date).
It's nice to go there, break something and figure out how NOT to do something
Better to practice there than on your car

I've been going back and forth on this, but I think I'm going with a parts car like therealgoon. That way I would have it close by and could use whatever parts as I need them and remove them at my leisure. I don't like being rushed.
Now, if I could just make my wife and the HOA understand...
