1157 Blinker Mod WriteUp

Okay, this write up is to convert your two front amber blinkers to running lights when not in use, and still operate as your blinker. It will look like this when your parking lights are on:

VIDEO: http://youtube.com/watch?v=W3Tc0ge1Zq8

Something you should know: I have my corner lights wired to be bright when the parking lights are on, so when we get to wiring the 1157 lights later in the thread, we'll cover what wire you should tap into then.

First, Things you'll need for this are:

Phillips Head Screwdriver
Flat Head Screwdriver (Used for Prying)
Wire Splicing Tool
Wire (I used 14 Gauge, but since it will be 27watts MAX, I'm sure 18 gauge will work just fine)
3M Electrical Tape

1157 Light Bulb Socket with three wires out. (2 Pos, 1 Neg)

Two 1157 Bulbs (Amber In color)

First what you should do is take your two front blinkers off of your car and take them inside. Use the flat-headed screwdriver to pry up the plastic part of the casing, then remove the light cover.

Once you have that out, unscrew the 1156 light bulb socket and lightbulb and remove. The two wires leading out the back are stuck in a small rubber bushing, just poke this out with your screwdriver.

You will use the same wiring harness, so I cut the two wires (1 Pos, 1 Neg) about 2 inches from the harness.

Next you should place the 1157 Bulb Socket inside the light and mount it. (Since all the sockets are sold with different mounting plates, I can't really explain how to do this part because your case will be different regardless) What I did was bend my mounting plate around the bulb socket and screwing it in to the previous mounting hole in the stock location. Run the three wires out of the hole in the back of the light.

Now, when wiring to the harness, you'll want your negative, and high wattage wire to be wired. I didn't know which was which so I wired one of the positives to the Harness and plugged it back up to the car and turned on the blinker, if it is a bright blink, you have the right one, if it is a very dim blink, you need to wire the other positive. Don't forget to secure the connection and wrap with electrical tape.

Now, to get them to be on constantly, (when parking lights are on) You're going to have to run an "Always Hot" wire, to that extra wire on the 1157 Bulb Socket. So what I did was cut about a 2 foot long wire, and connected it to the always hot wire on my corner lights:
(the red wire is the one leading to the blinker)

*Note, the constant power wire on your stock side market setup will be GREEN.*

Once that is connected and has a secure connection/ electrical taped. Feed the wire into the fender, and down into the front blinker light hole.

And connect that wire to the spare wire on the 1157 Bulb Socket. Secure Connection, and it should work!

Now they should work when your parking lights are on:

left with fogged plastic shield, right is clear.

Hah, no. It's under there. I think the Electrical tape my dad gave me to use was not a very good kind because it would get really sticky and melty and start coming undone. So I re-did it and wrapped it with clear tape to lock out water/heat. It is not required if you have good electrical tape

Ah, I wasn't sure about that since my covers are amber tinted. I just used clear.
