power steering question

power steering question

hate to bring this up couldn't find anything threw the more recent threads but....

changed power steering hose recently now its whining real bad fluid levels are good but still won't go away anything i could look at or do to stop it?

I'd check the belt first. Mine did that a while back and it turned out the belt got loose (I think I forgot to tighten the tensioner or something dumb like that )

I'd think so too but it didn't do it till i changed the hose. remember on another thread couple people saying they had the same problem after they changed the hose too but cant remember what thread it was on

Did you bleed the p/s system of air?

If not,here is the procedure per FSM


1. Raise front of vehicle until wheels are clear of the ground

2. add fluid into tank to specified level, turn steering wheel quickly from left to right,lightly touching the steering stoppers..repeat procedure until fluid level stops going down..

3. Start engine, then repeat step 2 with the engine running...

If you poor whiners have properly bled/primed/filled the system, then the correct answer is to go back to the guy that supplied the hoses - especially the suction hose ................... and whack the guy on the nose with it ............ repeatedly.

If that hose has an inside diameter smaller than (actual hose) or a banjo coupling with less than the original couplings flow characteristics, pump cavitation is caused due to inadequate flow and the result is the whining sound.

well i guess i will try bleeding it and i got the hose from schmucks so who knows about the diameter
