Stereo keeps turning off
Stereo keeps turning off
I have a 1992 Maxima with a aftermarket stereo and the radio keeps turning off when ever i turn it on. It will be on for awhile and then it will just randomly turn off, sometimes right when I turn it on it turns off. I made sure that all the connections were correct and my dad cant even figure it out, it could be a bad ground or power, wat do u guys think.
My old factory h/u did the same thing years ago,i didn't bother trying to figure out exactly what it was,i just replaced it with an aftermarket h/u..
It seemed like it was shorted out in the volume control **** though, sometimes when i tried to turn it up,it would just cut out completely, but the led display(radio station display) would still be lit up..

Whenever I would turn my Cd player up in my old max it would die.
i have kind of a similar problem. i have a pioneer super tuner III stereo, and when i turn it up pretty loud, the stereo lights blink. but when i turn it up louder, it will just turn completely off. could it be something to prevent the speakers from blowing?

Kind of far fetched but it could be a dying alternator.

My alternator died last week, the first thing to turn off was the Clarion h/u when it started getting worse just before the end.
Check voltage at the battery during idle, it should be above 14V if everything is good. My bad alternator sort-of recovered for a bit and gave 13.5V before I had it rebuilt. At 13.5 the h/u turned back on as well.

I bought this a couple of years ago,so i don't know if walmart still cariies it or not...
If not, they should have a similar unit available..
One of my cars had this problem awhile back. The fuse didn't sit tight and the stock stero would turn on and off if I touched the top of the fuse, or sometimes on it's own. Quick fix was to take a couple small peices of tin foil and folded over each leg of the fuse, shoved it in and it was secure from then on until I sold the car.
