need AT Shifter bushing help

When I shift my transmission into D, I have to nudge it a little farther into 2 to engage D. To engage 2, I have to nudge it a bit farther into 1.

The lever action is a little sloppy I noticed...

I remember reading a thread about a shifter bushing available from the dealer that can be replaced to fix this.

Can someone help me?

Thanks,

Sure.

There are two shifter linkage bushings that connect the shifter rod, to the transmission. The usual culprit of sloppy shifting and gear placement is the shifter linkage that is tucked up above the catalytic converter heat shield. It is just two metal arms, a cotter pin, and a bushing. The bushing dryrots and falls out. It's a $3 part at the dealer and it should only take you like 20 minutes or so, just make sure the engine is cool.

edit: might as well add this:

Put your car on ramps if you want it to be easier
Take off the catalytic converter heat shield
If you look to the drivers side of the cat you should see the linkage. Just replace the bushing in between where they meet.

Thank you.

Would you be so kind to identify it on the diagram?

Thanks again. I ordered it from the dealer.

It set me back $2.96.
