A max with a difference (or three)

Now that i've made the finishing touches to my interior, I thought you guys might like to see what i've been up to. I'm not sure if anyone else has done this combination before, and i'm sure it's going to stem some mixed opinions. But I am one who loves change.

Here goes :-

And for those of you curious to see the exterior, here 'tis :-

Update: Engine bay pictures were requested, so here they are. Keep in mind though, I am quite embarrassed to upload these as I havent taken any shots since i spent 4 and a half hours detailing the engine bay around 5 months ago (spending an hour each fortnight keeping it clean since then). These photos were prior to that but give you an idea on how it looked before it got any attention :-

-
(the second engine bay pic is further down this page)

Finally, you can check out a couple videos here, and here. Please forgive me for the shocking .3gp quality as the recording was via my crappy nokia mobile phone. If you're using vlc media player or media player classic with an mp4 / 3gp video codec installed you shouldn't have any problem running them. I think quicktime now supports 3gp too, could be wrong though. Alternative is to do a search on google for "3gp codec" and see how you go.

Holy crap! How long did it take you to get everything switched to the other side?

j/k.

That's a frikkin clean 3rd gen. I'm usually not one for the faux wood grain but with your colors it looks pretty damn good. The pop out screen is too cool.

the dash ones look good.
the door ones, look tacky because they don't wrap around the edge of the trim.
also the door lever really shouldn't have one.

looks good. Just one thing, I noticed you put the nissan emblem on the steering wheel like the newer nissans; won't that thing launch at your face at 200 mph if there is an airbag deployment? I like your leather. I have blue leather and still haven't seen another Max like it.

Nice - I am not a fan of the woodgrain look, but you have done a great job. Outside looks very clean, I wish I could keep the stones away from the front of my car so it stayed that clean.

did you know there is also a Aust/NZ maxima group? www.maximasdownunder.org Certainly not as much info as this group, but worth having a look at from time to time!

Just for 93CSMax's info, the paint name for this colour in Australia is Burgandy Wine, paint code AL0

Also, just a bit of off topic trivia - you external phone antenna should be vertical (perpendicular to the cell antenna), leaning it back like that will significantly reduce it's effectiveness

Very nice. Like Brian said the door trim would look alot better if it wrapped around but that would be hard to do.

Its nice to see a RHD maxima. Im not used to seeing it all over there. I know its the same but it looks very cluttered.

hehe, thanks for all the comments / feedback folks.

gapboi210: good point on the nissan emblem, could be a death wish?! eek! It looks so much better with it there though it's only plastic with chrome finish, but i guess at a decent speed it could still be lodged into your skull pretty easily, ugh!

And yeah, the dissapointing aspect of the wood dash kit was that they hadn't worked out a way for the door pieces to wrap around the bezels all the way. Looking overhead is **** hot but on an angle you can it's a layer-over-layer arrangement. I'm not too concerned about this though, I still think it looks a damn sight better than the plain black look it had before, I got sick of seeing too much black and grey everywhere hehe.

For those of you wanting to know where I purchased the wood dash kit from, the only place that I am aware of who do them for our cars is based in New York I think. They are called exoticwoodtrim, and give you an option of around 10 to 15 different shades of wood/carbon fibre/aluminium etc. The kit came delivered to me here in Melbourne, Australia for $199 AUD.

As you can see in some of the pics / videos, I also ordered some replacement coloured leds for the backlighting of my dash, and some chrome gauge rings from motostorm at the same time i ordered the wood dash kit.

sonicii: thanks for the tip on the cell phone antenna. I only kept it on an angle like that because I find it looks cleaner/better, had no idea it would affect performance.

to those of you requesting engine bay pics, I have a couple sitting here but they were pre-detail shots. It's since been tidy'ed up quite a bit more. I'll upload them shortly!

Edit: Added first engine bay picture to the bottom of my second post (below the front-on shot of the car up top)

Second (filthy) engine bay shot here :-

When I get around to it i'll take some shots of how the engine bay looks these days.

Learned something new today:
Paintcode AL0 in Australia is Burgandy Wine and the same paintcode in North America is Ruby Pearl Clearcoat. Gotta love Marketing as the paintcode is the same in the factory.

Anyway, your Burgandy Wine looks great.

he lives in austrailia they all come that way

looks good but i dould of kept it off of the door handles or anywhere where the plastic is showing where the wood isint makes it look cheap pimp my rideish, other than that its a good job just think nissan woulda done a lil bit better on the wood kit

So I am assuming that this is a vinyl overlay type kit? Or is is a ridgid molded kit? Thanks!

What you actually see as an end result is REAL wood. I believe they use a process where they are able to cut a thin-layer of wood away (in this case, "medium burl wood") using a special machine of sorts, and then wrap it in a thickened layer of very glossy and smooth glass-like plastic coating.

Short briefing here :-

Made with high-grade wood and premium synthetic adhesives, this 3M adhesive backed dash kit overlay is the perfect finishing touch for the dashboard and interior of your car or truck. The Genuine Wood Dash Kit delivers the natural, rich appearance of solid wood because it is just that, a thin-cut layer of wood formed to work with automotive interiors. Easy to install and up to the standards of your factory interior, this wood dash kit works for any make or model.
Pretty funky aye? It 'aint no Jaguar in terms of solid complete interior trim pieces made entirely of wood, but eh, at least it's the next best thing hehe.

It is the factory grill for all 93-94 Maximas in Australia (and probably other countries too).

Gotta tell you, bro, that's the most beautiful Maxima I ever seen. Mind telling me where did you get that Nissan logo for the steering wheel??? I've been looking for one for some time now but can't seem to find one of that size.

neither. they are called fog lights.
it's so that traffic behind you can see you in the fog, or that's the theory.

Except in Australia, they never actually put lights in there, so they are just red lenses. They never had front fog lights from the factory in Aust. either, I am guessing the OP installed them on his car.

interesting tidbit.... if you import an american market car into finland, you need to install those red fog lights on the rear of your vehicle... and finnish market vehicles dont have them...
