Does your A/C work on your 3rd gen? How cold is it?

Well as the title states: does your AC work on your third gen and how cold does it blow?

I recently fixed mine this past 4th of July and got hired by the shop that I used to get my high and low pressure hoses rebuilt. Have learned a lot so far

I'll be the first to answer, I get 45-47 dregrees out my vents (with r134a)when its 85+ degrees outside and I'm in love with my car

This reminds me of those annoying ploys for sales on craigslist. "AC BLOWS ICE COLD PICK HER UP TODAY!"

Jesus in the winter, i'm going to make a fake fs ad saying "BLOWS HOT AIR KEEPS YA WARM AND TOASTY"

Hey guys, i need some help, i bought a maxima in the UK where i live and the advert said it had air con. I got the car and found no switch for the a/c.

WTF. I thought maximas had a/c as standard?

There are only 2 models in the UK, standard and luxury, luxury has leather/cruise control etc.

Standard should have a/c, ive got alloys, power locks and windows, electric sunroof etc.

There is just a blank cover, i took it off and underneath is a button which if i press a light comes on, but i hear no change in engine revs as if the a/c had kicked in.

I looked under the bonnet (hood) and saw the fuse for the air con marked 'air con'...

Whats going on!?!?!?!

When that light comes on, do the radiator fans start spining? They should start automatically if the AC is working. Checking fuses is a good idea, keep going with that. Try to post a photo of the controls so we have a better idea of what you're seeing.

OP: Mine is cold but I never measured the temperature. What fan speed do you measure on? Have you insulated your cold lines or are they normal?

mine worked great when I had it.
the G20's works fine
the B13's works fine
the corolla's works fine
the montana's works fine
the malibus' work fine
I don't think either f-body has functional A/C T-tops FTW.

Thats a relay, not a fuse. Fuses are under the steering wheel, but a few are in the engine bay as well, check them out.

I dont know what is going on, i buy a car from ebay, the auction says the car has a/c, the woman says shes owned the car since new and "knows everything about it". I emailed her before i even bid and said "does the air conditioning work?"

She replies "everything works"

They dropped the car off after i paid via paypal at night when it was too dark to see the interior. The next day i see no a/c switch.

Now you tell me this.

Why would she lie? How can you own a car from new and not know if it has air con or not?!

(i wouldnt have bid if it hadnt had it, i feel sick driving hot, stuffy cars in the summer)

what year is your car supposed to be?

I'd actually file with paypal to refund you the money since the seller lied about it having a/c or so it appears.

also from the pics you posted it looks like the grill goes up with the hood which isn't a 3rd gen "feature" either.

Mine works OK...nothing wrong with it, but a recharge would make it colder. No point tho, considering there are only a handful of days every year when I feel it necessary to run it...Most times you'll find me driving with all the windows down...I prefer it that way.

Oh the woman also said it had cruise control which it doesnt either....

How can someone drive a car for so many years, she was upset leaving it because she was attached to it and gave it a pat goodbye, and not know the spec.

the condenser looks like another smaller radiator in front of your coolant radiator.

also look to the front right top corner of the engine bay for the A/C compressor.
you can see it in this pic..

If she said it had all those things, file a complaint with both Ebay and Paypal and return the car.

Actually you can see a grill clip in the 4th photo, so its there for sure.

But yes the car does not appear to have A/C, I dont see the air mix slider on the left side of the controls. What in the world does that hidden switch do besides turning on a light?

My guess is the car was specifically ordered from nissan without air conditioning, maybe it was a company car of sorts? or a maybe it was originally purchased in a primarily cold climate, thus not having a need for a/c?

Either way,the person who sold it to you was not truthful about the air,if you are really upset about it,file a claim with paypal.

My A/C works fine, tough is not very cold even all the way down still keep a good temp inside the car when outside it's over 80 here in CA, I don't know how cold is it but I noticed my dad's corolla blows the air much colder than my Maxima, people told me I should take it to a shop to refill the freon gas, I'm not sure if this will help, I don't even know if A/C requires to be drain/filled during it's lifespan, but like I said the way it is now it's confortable for me.

or. the women misunderstood you thinking you were talking about the blowing air. What I mean is the switch you press when you want to just regulate the air throughout the car..
just a thought.
That is a wierd combo though!

The compressor located above the alternator, which i don't see in your pic, therefore, i don't think you have AC in your car.

(well, i post this reply before i even looked at the second page)

mines not very cold at idle, but its enough to cool me down on a REAL hot day like 90+ degrees, only time i use it.

But its 17 years old and still works, cant complain. Maybe the 1st owner recharged it, but i doubt it, cause its not very cold.

Broken air conditioners are a common and expensive issue on older vehicles. I would make it crystal clear that it works too.
