Completely rebuilt RE4F02A for under $900
Completely rebuilt RE4F02A for under $900
Just doing some research on alternate engine/transmission combinations when I came across this. Seems like a good deal

Thats definitly a good deal, the only problem is rebuilt trans have a reputation for failing within a shortish period of time. They basically just replace wat went bad and leave everything else, so you could have new solenoids, etc, and "rebuilt" torque convertor but everything else is stil 20 yrs old and comes with wear and tear.

For example, new sun gear reaction shells on some GM trans's, updated thrust washers, etc.

you have obviously not sold to these "budget" shops.
I've had them walk in for 1 friction plate because the rest were reusable in their opinion.
We know that these Nissan automatics can be problematic to begin with, so there's too much importance placed on the quality of the rebuild, parts, etc. And if you need work done under warranty, what kind of hassle would it be? I'd noticed that there was a seller on Ebay that offers a rebuilt for about the same price, and I would think that should be avoided for the same reason. In this case, I think its worth the extra $ to find a local Cottman or other reputable shop and get it done right.
I had Cottman do my GXE's tranny almost 3 years ago, and I noticed that when I and the GXE were finally reunited yesterday, the thing ran as tight as when first drove it out of the shop. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing.
And BTW, I know I'm repeating myself, but: never never never buy a used tranny from a junkyard. Chances are, it will be a P.O.S.!

the VE got a different trans than the VG did.
the VE came standard with VLSD (both A/t and M/t)
VE trans is rated at 2x the torque capacity of the VG trans assuming I'm reading the trans codes right.

i found a former nissan tech working at a private shop i was getting an inspection done at. i got my own tranny rebuilt for $450 because i dropped it and brought it in to him myself. two years later and it runs great not to brag or anything
