Finally got em and installed em! pics inside

Hey guys just thought I show you what took up 3 miserable hours of my life because I didnt have a short 1/2 drive extension for my impact gun at 3am...

So my motor had been wobbling all over the place for months, discovered when replaced all exhaust studs, yes even though the front mount was replaced 2 months prior to that when the tranny was replaced. Anyway, got fed-up and got some spare motor mounts from the JY and thanks to
Maxpwer91, I got polyurethane SOLID mounts. Yes I feel a HUGE difference with them now, incredible responce difference compared to the old mounts and my engine doesnt sit crooked anymore. Only thing buggin me is that I can feel a lot more vibration but I guess I'll get used to it. Here's some pics of the new and old mounts.
Sorry about the quality, these were taken with my phone.

No wonder they charged me 50 bucks for it in Nov 2006, its crap!

See the difference?

HUH, DO YA?

I can see myself on it!

:-p you said thanks to maxpwer91, how was I to know you didn't mean he told you where to get it done, or maybe taught a class to a group of migrant workers who just happened to be at a flea market you were at and you got them there... never know, all the possibilities

bla sorry but yea dude, I got the mounts, gave him to him and in a week or two he filled em and had em cure. I just tossed em on. If he would've had the poly in stock I would've gotten the mounts back a lot faster

Good choice as you've got a ve and a 5, I on the other hand dont really need poly tranny mounts cuz:
1. they're in good shape
2. I have an AUTO!

I got a set too!
Stiff as hell and doesn't make any cabin noise other than a drop in idle or start up.

error: misinformation found!
Regardless of what transmission your vehicle has you should replace all mounts at the same time, otherwise the one(s) not replaced will go out a little later because they have become the weak point in the system.

then why was the "new" motor mount installed during my tranny replacement the only one that was ALL chewed up and the other 3 were intact, and you can tell that the rear motor mount was good by that pic! Shouldnt it have been the rear (old one) that got torn up and the new one remain ok?

beside, the tranny ones should last until I toss in the 5speed

I really don't think you'll have trouble with your old tranny ones if they are not chewed up. They don't get Nearly as much force as the motor ones. I really think poly tranny mounts are overkill.

the front mount, regardless of whether it is an engine or trans mount, will suffer the majority of the abuse on a FWD car due to rotational forces. All the mounts see the same amount of torque applied to them since the engine trans is basically one solid piece.

So thats why they made the tranny mounts Sooo small right? The motor mounts carry the major engine rotation, the tranny mounts keep the mout from tossing left and right.

But wtf do I know.

Hmm, looks like we need someone else to give their part on this. Why are they smaller than the motor mounts, Brian?

you are confusing size with purpose.
the size of the mount has nothing to do with how it functions.

you're arguing semantics.

fill the tranny mounts with poly. you won't regret it.

filling the mounts with poly would give you less chassis vibration reduction wouldn't it? i mean, the benefits of a stronger mount are obvious, and the long term benefits as well......so how much does the vibration increase anyway?

I dont know if my engine is rough but it vabrates so much that my voice sounds real shaky when I talk and when I'm at a redlight aka 750 rpms or soo, on idle while on Park or Neutral its fine...

ok so supposing that I were to put it in D, hold the brake, and give it a little gas, should the engine move much if the mounts are still good? or does that mean they are broken?

its normal for some movement but if the whole engine just shifts a crapload then your motor mounts are probably like the one on the very first picture in this thread.

well there it is. The car only lurched once (handbrake on, in D, faced uphill) and it's fairly obvious. Is my engine moving too much?

HOLY CRAP DUDE!!!! Your engine moves a LOT more than mine did! I'm guessing your mount(s) must be even worse than the one on pic #1. btw it its lifting like that up front its gonna be the front motor mount which by coinscidence (sp?) turns out to be the small one on pic #1

wow...that's a LOT of movement. your engine looks like it's about to run away without the car......probably because it wishes it was a VE

then i guess i'll do that when i do my broken stud

so that means my to do list:
1) exhaust stud
2) ypipe section
3) front suspension bushings
4) fixing idle. whatever the cause may be
5) motor mounts
6) new boot around tie rod
7) new PS pump
8*) rear crank seal
*unconfirmed as being bad. oil on KS and tranny bellhousing. front seals changed w/ timing belt.. but rear was left alone. maybe i'll replace all 4 mounts and take the tranny out and do it before re-mounting it.

then it might actually start being more like it ought to be. and then, it'll be fixed enough to mod.

don't bother fixing the exhaust studs or Y pipe until you fix the engine mounts. the movement of the engine is one of the causes of exhaust problems.

that was actually my guess. I noticed now much that exhaust stuff moves and kinda figured that was why. when the engine is idling the catalytic converter vibrates violently.

sadly i really can't afford all 4 mounts. I am a part time worker at under $8/hr, so i can only afford the one that is broken.

Well, I'd say of equal or lesser price than aftermarket stock replacement mounts but at greater quality.

Just a guesstimate here. I didnt pay for them at all cuz I got him most of the parts he needed for this top secret project no one must know about, sooo its kind of a trade but he can give you a price.

Only thing is, you might need to remove your mounts, ship em to him, wait a a week or 2 after him receiving em, get em back filled and toss em on. OR you can do what I did, I got JY mounts dirt cheap, did some of the work myself by drilling out the rubber and then just wait for him to fill em. I had no down time on my car thanks to the spare mounts I got at the JY.

PM him if you really want to know how cheap

i'm thinking that i will be brave and fill mine myself. Just a matter of letting it dry/cure but it can be done. I could potentially do them on a friday afternoon at 4pm, leave them off until 6-7pm saturday afternoon to dry, if i wanted to.

is it necessary to remove the existing rubber before you fill the mounts, or can it stay in place?

well, you should remove some. how much is up to you, but looking at that picture, it's going to be tough to get anything down into the grooves as small as they are normally (particularly that top groove), so you should carve enough out to make the filling process easier. but some say to remove as much as you can without disturbing the centered position of the metal sleeve, to make the mount as rigid as possible. but that may be a matter of taste.

ok here's my front engine mount
http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u...otor%20mounts/

it was actually far easier than i imagined to get it out. The hardest parts were maneuvering my wrench around my woodblock that i used to support the engine with, and jacking my car up (my jack has a fairly short upward travel, making it really hard to get my jackstands under the car)
