Gas tank leaking?

My car started smelling of gas in thew garage- on the gas tank there are two drops of gasoline now- usually evaporate before hitting the ground. I cleared of the area, and there appears to be a tiny crink in the metal, but the leak is so slow I am not positive where it is coming from.

Anyone have any advice about this?

Thanks-

-Chris

you should check the overflow hose and filler tube for cracks too, if the drips are on the driver's side of the tank

If it is in fact the gas tank that is leaking, it won't cost a whole lot, but it will be a little time consuming to repair. (To do it right)

Drop the heat shield on the rear of the gas tank. Drop the exhaust. Drop the heat shield at between where the exhaust and gas tank meet at the front of the gas tank. Put a floor jack in the middle of the tank and put a block of wood separating the two. Jack to where block of wood is snug against gas tank. Remove cotter keys on brackets on the front of the gas tank. Remove the two bolts holding up the gas tank (on the back of the gas tank holding the two straps). Remove rear seat. Disconnect fuel pump. Drop tank a little to get more room if needed. Disconnect all rubber lines on driver's side of the gas tank. Lower gas tank. If car isn't high enough on jack stands you will need to slide out the floor jack from underneath gas tank before sliding out the gas tank. (Doing it with a full gas tank is possible, but if you can wait until there isn't much gas left in the tank, it is recommended). Drain remaining fuel.

Almost all radiator shops will fix a leaking gas tank. Some are better than others, but it doesn't cost much. You might want to take the time to get the tank boiled depending on how much deposit you have at the bottom of your gas tank. I spent $55.00 to get this one boiled.

To have a leak repaired I doubt it would be more than $20.00. If you get the gas tank boiled you will have to repaint it (about $10.00) and doing some preventative maintanence at this time wouldn't hurt, either: spraying rust killing black paint and/or rubberized coating on the chassis where the top of the gas tank would block you from normally getting to, ($10.00-$20.00).

Then, reverse steps to get back to point A.
