Lets try this again, but this time posting my message in the right forum.

So I gave my 1992 Max to my mechanic and told him that it shook too much, used up more gas that usual, and just didn't feel right.

The next day my dad got the car for me and from what my dad understood a fuel injector valve was replaced (or something like that, but they both speak poor english)

Later that day I drove for about 2 hours on the highyway for a camping trip with friends. We stopped for a break and I got gas ( I used that brand of gas before), but when we got to the parking grounds, the abs warning light starts flashing on and off, my window controls were gone, the radio gave out, the wipers turned on randomly, the digital display flickered on and off and got brighter and darker.

I came back 36 hours later and turned on the car, no warning lights were on, but the clock was reset and so was the trip odometer, but it seemed ok.

As soon as I put it in revesre the abs started flashing on and off and I can hear a clicking sound sismilar to the one the blinker makes, the display sometimes flickerd on and off, and the wipers occasionally turned on, the blinkers didn't blink they just stayed on but other than that it drove home fine.

As I come home the car starts to shake like before I took it to the mechanic, but it still drove, finally as I turn into my street it car didn't go when I accelerated, the rpms fell and it sounded like a tractor. I parked it on the street and attempted to restart it ion 5 minutes, but it didn't go, nothing happened when i turned the key, the engine dind't turnover and no electruical power was available. The car was DEAD!!!!

What is wrong? I have always suspected some electrical problem, but is that the real problem. Did the alternator give out? Do I call my old mechanic, to fix it again? Do i go to a dealer and pay more?

Any IDEAS????

Thanks

dead -- BAD

I had a bad alternator, and I got jerked around for a month and a half about it.. first Sears tells me its a bad battery, then after 2 replacements, they finally figure out its the alternator...

If u can jump the car, but a very short distance after jumping it dies again ( like it is running then cuts out like u described ) it is probably the alternator, thats what happened tome.. u might want to check your belts that drive the alternator , that might cause a shake... maybe

good luck

Wow.

Yeah, hopefully it's your alternator. Otherwise, who knows man. Have you been the original ower of this car? And how long have you had these mechanics? Cause usually if something this messed up is going on, they could figure that out before it happens. Especially if they look at it only a little before, and if they're looking at that system of the car.

Otherwise if it's not the alternator, and these guys can't figure it out, I'd definately go to the dealer.

Oh, and how did your Trip Odometer get reset? Cause I don't know about with yours, but I have to push the little thing in, and that's not something that the computer or battery or anything can control...

I've had the car for about three months. The mechanic I go to can be trusted 100%.

The trip odometer can reset cause my display is digital. Everything is digital, the speed, fuel gauge, rpms and the odometer. To reset it I do have to press a button, but its electrical not spring loaded like most cars. My car is a "Brougham" edition if that helps.

Anyway the car is at the mechanics right now getting fixed. I drove it over yesterday.

It fired up by itself without jumper cables, but I had no ride back at the time so I turned the car off. Later that day I turned it again, the car made a clicking sound but it didn't start up, so I jumped it and it drove. At first it rummbled like it was about to stall, so I floored it and it was like magaic. The car drove fine the rest of the way without any warning dispays or problems. It drove like the original car I knew. Weird huh?

And today the mechanic started it up without a problem again.

Hmmm. Sux. Dunno man. (BTW - the thing about the dash makes sense now, didn't know you had the digital. That's just why I was like "huh??" But hopefully you'll get the problem resolved.

Well done and done, I got my car back and it turned out to be the alternator.

It feels great to have it working again, you never really appreciate a working car until it breaks down.
