Nice!!!

it looks sweet! once I get my lazy *** motivated I'm gonna pull my gauge cluster and do the same...but removing all that mess is so bothersome especially outside in this 90+ degree heat!

You have to take out the instrument cluster to replace the bulbs in the back. If you have an SE cluster (white faces), then you can do this; if you have a GXE, then you have to get SE gauges. Switch out the bulbs (4 of them) with whatever color (hyper bulbs) you want.

To take out the cluster, you have to remove the shifter panel, the radio control panel, and the top panel. There are detailed instructions somewhere on the board. Just do a search.

The bulb number is 194, and you'll need 4. I think I bought the bulbs on an ebay auction. You can get them most anywhere.

oh good, i got blue ones for my doors at autozone for $1.95 a pair. what kind of paint did you use, did you sand the dash and where did you get the clearcoat? i'm looking to paint my dash and door trim pieces (where the door latch and window switches are).
thanks

Madmax,

I didn't paint my dash. The cluster is from an '89 SE (white gauges). The red color comes from putting in hyper red bulbs in the left and right bulb slots. I put hyper whites in the two middle slots. Does this answer your question?

ok, well i guess i was lookin' at another thread when i asked the question. anyway, this is for anyone who has painted their dash/trim pieces and what not. what kind of paint did you use? did you sand the pieces so they were smooth or just paint them.
sorry about the misposted question.

Do you know if the GXE bulbs are the same as the SE bulbs?

The 194's are just regular white bulbs with color caps on them (green for GXE and blue for SE). The real problem is not the bulbs but the actual instrument cluster which, if you want to change the color of the lights (at night), you will have to change to white-faced (SE) gauges. Was that clear? If not, just ask.

i read in another thread that some gxe's aren't like that, but if not, it's no thing cuz i found a place where i can get an SE cluster for $50 shipped

edit: i found the post. here's the link. i searched for "green dash lights" one guy says he switched his bulbs to blue ones and they look blue, and not green. i'm going to email him in a bit. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....en+dash+lights

Hyper white bulbs in a GXE

I just put Polarg hyper white bulbs in my dash and they still look green but much brighter and a lighter color. Like a light aqua green. They're the same 194 bulbs used in a SE. I think there's a layer of green that makes the lines still look green. I'm thinkin of takin it all apart to check it out..

You can also use Blub #168, that's what I have in my 1991 SE. The 168's make the dash brighter and clear. BTW, my lights are clear/white

The lights in my dash are clear/white. My next project is to find myself some purple/blue dash guages in #168
