Hey everyone. I have a question...
I find that with my Maxima (Auto). When it is driven in city traffic or after a lot of stop and start driving the tranny starts to shift really differently. Like a slow 1st to 2nd change that does not seem to be a positive as it is when it is cooler. I have a tranny cooler and just changed the oil to synthetic Transmax Z. The tranny does not slip or act up except for this strange shift feel when driving stop and start or heavy traffic. But then again when the air con is on the tranny shifts fine no matter how many stops and starts I do. Even in city traffic! Someone please help I need to know why it is doing this. It is very annoying. Does my computer need resetting??? Or tranny computer reset? Does undoing the battery conection for 12 hours do this?? I have heard this is another post???
Any help would be great.
Oh anyone know a good site for blue print pictures of the tranny or pics of the car in blue print form??? I wanna do a tech drawing for a picture to place in my study! Thanks

When you have your A/C on the electric fans run almost constantly. This draws more air through the tranny cooler as well as the A/C condenser. Basically the reason it shifts poorly is because the fluid is getting hotter because the tranny cooler doens't do much of anything unless you are moving air through it. In stop and go traffic I ALWAYS run with the A/C on. Two reasons: a) I'm more comfortable :-) b) Tranny is cooler

Take care,

Brian

you can pick up a tranny cooler at pep boys for like $40, and they're easy to install. there's a sticky about them at the top of the page

My car already has a tranny cooler and it works great but I have noticed that the tranny with operate like new when the air con is on. I tried this today... Tranny was already warmed up from city stop and start driving. I then put the air con start away. The tranny immeidately started shifting better. Just after I pused the button. How is this??? It must send some signal to the computer to shift differently. I have decided to disconect my battery for 12 hours anyway to reset my cars computer.
Cheers...Anyone else that can help explain this?? Anyone else noticed this?? Let me know!!!

because with the A/C on, the tranny fluid is cooled even more than with just the cooler, so it shifts better
