Have a Question
Hi, I just bought a MSD Blaster Ignition Amplifier and Blaster Coil for my 94 Maxima. I prolly should've read up more on it before buying them. First, will is work on my car? And also will it change anything like it says it's gonna do. I sure hope it works and does something otherwise I wouldnt of bought them. Thanx!!!
Yes.....
it will work on your car(works on all cars with distributors, VG has distributor)....performance will vary I guess, but don't expect ENORMOUS power! it is suggested that you upgrade to "higher strength" plug wires(ie-Magnecor, Jacobs, etc.) when using the upgraded ignition, also remember that the plugs might have to be re-gapped to accomodate.

Re: Yes.....
Thanx. Where exaclty is the other factory coil in the car. I have to unplug those wires and plug them into the new coil, correct? I'm pretty sure I know how to do this, I'm just making sure. Thank you!!!
I'll answer both questions......
Madmax: sorry man no use on a VE, theres no distributor(only coil packs)
Hurricane: the other factory coil is located to the right of the distributor(check the pic I attached to this post, I circled the location)...yeah I've looked over the installation of the similar Jacobs ignition system and the install seems VERY easy! the pic isn't really clear, but the coil is located in the "red circle" area...if you need more help just ask me! good luck

Could someone describe the VE ignition system a bit more too please? Is it one of those new(er) high powered distributorless ignitions or something? If so, then that could explain lack of upgrades for it. Just curious too.
I'll answer this (part II)
BMan & MadMax: I was actually looking into this very same thing not too long ago. It seems that Jacobs, I think, makes a similar device for DIS-type cars, such as our VE's. I'll have to find the info again, as I'm at work and the information is at home. But unless someone else has that information readily available, I'll post my findings for all!
Well....
Madmax: as far as I know there is no KNOWN COMPATIBLE upgrades avaiable for the VE, BUT MSD does make a distributorless ignition system, now as for its compatability on a VE, I'm not sure...but contact them and see, maybe it will work after all.
Bman: I'm not sure on how exactly it works or if it is truly "more advanced" than a distributor system, but I know there are 6 coil packs and no plug wires, other than that I'm clueless on the technology of the VEs distributor-less igniton...
but you guys can look into MSD's new DIS series igniton systemns, which are compatible with some distributor-less ignitions!
