Are there any common oil leaks that these cars get? I woke up on Saturday to a large pool of oil under the car. Seemed to be coming from around where the auto meets the engine.

I think it is either seals or the most likely cause is from when I went through a rather deep pothole and the car bottomed out on something real hard.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Brent.

whatever it is, you need to get it fixed ASAP, if it suddenly appeared after you hit a pothole. you could have cracked your tranny case, or punched a hole in your oilpan, depending on the problem and where you hit. suddenly leaving puddles after you hit a pothole usually means you broke something...

BTW.. you CAN hold the city responsible for some damage to your car, if the pothole is unavoidable.. at least you can in Oklahoma. had a friend that his Civic was almost destroyed (bent control arms, shoved struts THROUGH the hood, bent 3 rims, etc etc) because of a 1ft deep pothole in the middle or the road that he couldn't see.. the city paid for it all.

but about your situation.. try to figure out what kind of fluid it is, then get it fixed.. son't try to drive the car unless you know exactly why and where the car's leaking.
good luck.

The weird thing is I've been monitoring the oil level (it is definately an oil leak) and its all good and the actually leaking of oil has stopped for the last 2 days!!!

BTW - We can't do anything with our City Councils with respect to seeking damages. NZ laws don't allow for the ability to seek damages from local Councils. I can probably claim under car insurance if the damage is really expensive.
