HELLO - I have been wondering this for quite some time, but what needs to be done to convert a gxe to a se? engine wise. Is the only difference the DOHC, and the headers, or whatever? or is the block totally differnt. Is the transmission the same? gear ratio? COmputer? injectors? that sort of stuff. I have just been wondering, because it would be the funnest project int he world to do.

thanks
woody

No it wouldn't. It would be a big pain in the butt to do. For the constraints of this posts the VE and VG engines are 100% different. If you want a SE, it would be much more cost effective, just to sell your GXE and just purchase a VE powered maxima(5-sp preferably)

Go buy an SE

Jeff is correct. Also, the TTZ motor won't fit. The engine mounts might work, but the engine is simply too wide at the heads to fit under the hood. That's why the VE was created.

There's a reasonable amount of bolt-ons for the GXE, try these out first. With an intake (such as JWT POP Charger), lightened pulley, Y-pipe, cat-back system, you should get quite a noticeable increase in HP.

Hers how to put TTZ in 3rd gen--->

1. buy a TTZ
2. remove ttz engine
3. cut off rear end of Maixma and throw that away, cause you don't need it anymore
4. buy a ****load of paste and glue and some Bubble tape
5. try your best to attach the engine to the rear of the Max using the items from #4, you gotta use plenty of bubble tape
6. buy a pack of rubber bands
7. attach the rubber bands to the flywheel of the TTZ engine and the other ends to the rear axle
8. use elestic bike straps to make sure everything stays in place
9. now connect a speaker wire from the ttz engine in the back to the stock engine up front and BOOM, you're all done, now you have AWD and TT.... a little added bonus!
10. and lastly put "Twin Turbo" stickers all over the car

You have a lot to learn.....

TTZ(not ZZT) enigne is from 90-96 Z32 300zx twin turbo VG30DETT(not VG30E which is in our car), the engines are HARDLY the same....plus the TTZ is RWD and will not fit without MAJOR body and driveshaft modification. it has 300hp stock...the engine you were probably thinking of is the Z31(VG30ET), it is from the Z31 300zx(84?-89) single turbo, it will fit and work with some modification and has 205-210hp stock.

and yes rubber bands are used in all cars since 1985, timing belts break too easy so rubber bands have been the standard substitute sine congrees passed Bill 0965 back in September 1984....geez, I'm surprised people don't know that!

u mean a 300zx engine can fit in a maxima if it has a single turbo? can someone write instructions on how to do that? i didnt no that rubber bands replaced timing belts in 1984. my nissan dealership said that i have a timing belt that needs to be changed or something. i guess he meant to say the rubber band belt. sorry i didnt no that. i am not a mechanic and i cant even change my own oil. im just a 16 yr old learning to master the do it urself repair stuff.
