I have an ailing auto-tranny that needs to be rebuilt....is there a performance up-grade for it? I want to build it a little tougher since I am aggressive with my driving...I know that I need to add an auxillary tranny cooler because the stock one SUCKS...that is part of the reason they go out so easily. Any suggestions would be very helpful.!!

thx

It depends....

Since you need a rebuild be wary of who you take your car too. Some shops try to give us the run around. What I suggest doing is going to a speed shop and ask them who does very good work in building heavy duty street and strip transmissions. Or you can goto a transmission shop and tell them that you want them to install heavy duty clutches, drive plates, bands and a shift kit that will withstand 100 shot NOS and/or a high output turbocharger. If they say why do you want that then go somewhere else. Also a rebuild of that caliber might run around $2000-3000. I suggest you take the time and get a Protorque (www.protorque.com)torque convertor installed too. Whatever you do don't go for a rebuild that they say is "as good as when it was new". It sucks to have the tranny rebuilt twice when it should have been done the first time.
