Help needed, car stall at red light.

I have a 94 se, 5sps. The car was not cold, i have driven it for like 20 mins. I was waiting at this traffic light today. The car was at neutral and all of the suddend, the car stalled. I imediatiately start the ignition again, it started right away. I have noticed this problem lately. What could be the problem? Could it be the worn spark plugs? Help before the winter arrive.

Thanks.

Possibly......

the fuel filter is clogged and needs to be changed, when was your last tuneup, it might be about that time!

The fuel filter has been changed in April of 2001. My last oil change was on Aug 31.

It has been like that for the past two months, but it shut itself off as i was approching red light. I thought i forgot how to drive standard, but the car didn't jerk at all. I was pretty sure it wasn't me. There must be something wrong with the car. But yesterday, it actualy turned itself off, while i was wating for red light.

What else could be the cause of it?

Thanks.

Dude that sounds just like the EGR valve sticking open. The EGR can be removed and cleaned with throtle body cleaner. Just recently I cleaned mine with the engine running (need an additional set of hands to do that). Carbon deposits build up inside the valve and if there's enough then it may be stuck a tiny bit open and send some exhaust gasses to the engine and she wont like that at an idle so she'll stall.

How do i go about doing it? Is this a hard job? Any instruction? Where's EGR located? I'm not familiar with these kind of stuff.

Thanks.

The EGR is located on the drivers side near the firwall and shock tower, its at the top. It's large and got a round dome on top, you will see a small rubber hose running out of it and a larger steel pipe running out the lower side, facing the middle of the car. If you want to remove it:

The engine should be off and cold.

1) remove the rubber hose by pulling it off, If it doesnt wanna slide off then grab the hose and give it a twist to loosen it.

2) you need to disconnect the steel pipe on its back side. You will need an adjustable wrench to loosen it. (When reassembling you should use some anti-seeze grease on the threads)

3) there are two nuts that hold the EGR to the engine, remove them and then the EGR should come free.

4) With the EGR out you can then start cleaning it. Spray carburator cleaner inside the two openings that have the carbon deposits in. You will need to open the valve and work it open and closed to clean out the inside thouroughly. To open the valve reach with your fingers under and inside the round dome and pull up with your fingers, it should move freely when you pull up and then it should pull itself shut when you let go.

You should pick up a new gasket at the dealership, it should be less than five bucks. not replacing it can cause an exhaust leak.

I hope this helps, you can PM me if you have any Q"s
